Welcome to your local virtual book club! We would love to learn a bit about you, what brought you to us, and a few of your favorite books or series.
A bit about me:
I am Valetta Cannon, Youth Librarian & Assistant Director at Fort Scott Public Library. I am also a mother of three, and also keep 2 dogs and 1 cat. My kids attend Fort Scott Public Schools, and I live in town. I have lived here since May of 2010, and was born in Fort Scott but grew up in Missouri. My job at the library began in July of 2015. It is my dream job, and I could not be happier. I am also a recent graduate of FSCC, with an Associate of Arts degree, as well as a former daycare worker and with many years of experience in children's ministry. A few years ago, I also worked as a part-time library clerk and summer reading director at a small public library in Missouri.
My reading preferences have changed a lot over the years. In my young years, I was a huge fan of Ramona Quimby, Laura Ingalls Wilder, The Chronicles of Narnia, and fantasy/action/mystery/comedy books. I also read a lot of non-fiction. I was romance-novel-smitten for most of the 90's and early 2000's, but emerged in the last decade head-over-heels in love with science fiction and fantasy. I am also an aspiring writer who needs a serious kick in her rear to try and get my works published. Maybe someday.
Huge shocker: I love children's books and am addicted lately to dystopian young adult novels as well. I really read little bits of everything, so if you have a great recommendation for me, please do share! I am, alas, also a very slow reader, but will try and get to any worthwhile work eventually. Take a look at my to be read pile sometime.
