Oh ! Take your time , really ! I am still finishing up our wonderful group read , The Sympathizer . I have to tell you I have really gotten so caught up in the similarities between that time and now in the way we treated the Vietnamese refugees. Then , I also was conflicted as I am now about the corruption in our government then as now that has seemed to continue and to have become extremely worse in the US and across the world as we have formed coalitions between the rich and against the poorest countries. It seems that as a nation we have followed this ongoing cycle of corruption behind the pretense of helping the poorest along the way . It seems the greedy powers that be take charitable money and other forms of help for the poor and abuse it in many ways first for the greedy powerful and then give just enough to the humans in need who are in pain and suffering to be able to publicly aknowledge a change in some way. This makes me feel disgusted with human nature in its most selfish and evil form . Most that are doing this now are so self - centered they think they are beyond reproach and do think that no one is as intelligent as they are to bring them to justice. They collect so much money to bribe or have so much power to threaten they are above all law when every person fully sees what is happening There are truly sympathizers who want to do good and have a conscience but I consider them the saddest type of people for they see clearly both points of view and the harms to the innocent and the truely loyal who fight with blind honor because they have been taught that is the way all of their lives. Country is to become before family to protect their family and way of living and culture. There is an anonymous quote about war , " War does not determine who is right --- only who is left ." It is never really fought for the people , there is always an underlying reason that is profitable to some county . I became sidetracked in studying this war and trying to find a reason why the US entered this War in Vietnam . I still do not have a solid answer . So I am finishing the book to read some more . And my was this a sickening and tricky war . These are just my observations about how the people so far. This is not about the war itself.
