Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments There is a pile of scones under his bed.

message 2: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon was lying on the bed with his bad leg propped up. He was bored to bits since everybody was busy with Jem now and there was nobody to talk to.

message 3: by Genevieve (last edited May 18, 2014 08:16PM) (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel knocked on his brother door before entering, not bothering to get confirmation that he could enter. As he walked into Gideon's room, he took his coat off, and promptly dropped it on the floor-- glad to get the sogging mess off of him. "How's your leg feeling?" He asked, coming around to sit on the right bedside.

message 4: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "It's not my leg bothering me." Gideon said, almost mournfully. "It's the fact that I'm here without anybody to talk to that is driving me mad." he looked at Gabriel with slight shock on his face. "What in the world have you done to yourself?" he asked, the shock showing even in his voice.

message 5: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, "I went out for a walk with Miss Herondale to admire the weather." He knew Gideon would never believe that, but he still acted as though it were the truth. Gabriel began working on unbuttoning his shirt to change into something dry and blood-less.

message 6: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "You look as if you were rolling around in the mud with Ms. Herondale." he said, then realizing how it sounded, made a face. "Why do you have blood on your clothes?" he asked, to divert the subject a little.

message 7: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel laughed at Gideon's blunder and then answered, "Picking flowers from the park is a very bloody business." He was in a very sarcastic mood right now, and didn't know why, however his biting wit was at his highest.

message 8: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "I am very serious Gabriel." he said. "The sarcasm is not going to stop me from asking you. What really happened? Are you okay? Is Ms. Herondale okay?"

message 9: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "Miss Herondale is sick with worry about her brother, and if you must know, I was helping her find him." He unlaced his shoes and pulled them off, one by one. Walking over to his brother's closet, he selected a shirt and pulled it over his head and down across his chest. It was roughly an inch short on him due to his brother's height, but it would have to do.

message 10: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "Well, I don't remember saying you could wear any of my clothes." Gideon said in a slightly amused voice. Then, his voice turned serious. "How is his parbatai doing?" he asked.

message 11: by Genevieve (last edited May 18, 2014 09:09PM) (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel faced turned pale, well paler. "I don't think anyone knows, not even Miss Grey. And it has Cecily worried sick because it has her brother worried sick." He realized he had called Cecily by her Christian name in front of Gideon, and his eyes went round.

message 12: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "So it's Cecily now, is it?" Gideon observed. "I wonder when that happened. An interesting development." he smiled slightly at his brother. ut then sighed. "All of them must be so worried." he said.

((He called Tessa by her Christian name too!))

message 13: by Genevieve (last edited May 18, 2014 09:10PM) (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Oh, I slipped up there. I'll fix it.))

Gabriel shook his head, "Too many things are happening at once. It's hard to wrap my mind around it all." He walked back over to his brother's bedside and plopped down next to him once again.
Suddenly there was a knocking at the door, and Gabriel stood back up again to answer it. Upon opening the door, he was faced with Sophie ((yay!)) who appeared to be carrying a plate of scones.

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Gtg))

message 15: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon sat up and put one hand on his brother's shoulder. "You did the right thing by coming here." he said. "This is one thing I hope you'll never regret and..." he paused. "I'm glad you decided to come here."

message 16: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments ((Oh, okay.))

message 17: by Ananya, Group Creator (last edited May 18, 2014 09:39PM) (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon looked up when Sophie arrived. His face contained barely concealed happiness. "Ah, Miss.Collins" he said.

message 18: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Collins))
Sophie brought the plate of scones over to Gideon's bedside table, "Are you feeling any better, Mr. Lightwood?" She asked fixing his pillow. Not wanting to stay here for too long, she finished fixing up the pillow and started for the door.

message 19: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "Won't you stay for a little longer?" Gideon asked her, looking almost pleading. "You haven't come here for a long time."

message 20: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Sophie turned around to face Gideon, her face blank, holding little emotion. However, she desperately wanted to stay, to hold him and care for him, but there was no way that could be done, what with their different social standings. "I'm sorry, Mr. Lightwood, but I really must be getting back to my job. I was simply here to deliver scones."
Gabriel could sense his brothers disappointment, and decided to help him. "Well if you are doing your job, Miss Collins, you really ought to clean up this room. It's a dreadful mess." He didn't want to order Sophie around, but he figured it was the only way to make her stay.
Sophie went rigid, "Alright." She hadn't wanted Gideon to see her working, much less cleaning, and she resented Gabriel for putting her in this position.

message 21: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon looked at Gabeiel thankfully but slightly reprimandingly. He hadn't wanted Sophie to clean up the room. He just wanted to talk to her, not see her act like a servant. He saw her stiffen and made up his mind. "It does not matter, Miss Collins." he said. "My brother will see to the cleaning up of the room. You may leave if you like. The mess here is mostly his, after all." he looked at the scones she had brought and felt slightly sick, thinking of the scones that were already stuffed under his bed.

message 22: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "It is quite alright, Mr Lightwood," She said in a monotone voice. Sophie had come here to do her job, and do her job she shall. Bending down, she began to pick up lose pieces of clothing and crumpled pieces of paper.
Gabriel slightly reddened at seeing Sophie work, it felt ... Odd. "It is quite alright Miss-" But he couldn't finish his sentence, for at that moment Sophie let out a little yelp, and stood up briskly, holding another plate of scones in her hand.
"Mister Lightwood," Her voice had a reprimanding feel to it, "Care to explain why there seems to be a mountain of scones under your bed?" Her face was flushed with anger.

message 23: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon's face turned bright red. "I.... I." he stuttered. "I...just pretended I liked them." he said all in a rush. "It's not your scones. It's just that I don't like any scones. I detest them particularly. I just did not have the heart to tell you..." he stopped and took a deep breath, realising he was talking complete nonsense. "I apologize deeply for my actions, Miss. Collins." he said, looking down at his bedsheet.

message 24: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "Do you understand how disrespectful this is?" She asked, glaring at Gideon. "I have to work day after day, and I brought the scones up here every time you rang for them because it was my job. Yet, you do not seem fully aware that this is work for me, Mister Lightwood, and that I'm not just some girl you can call when you get bored! And look at all the food you've wasted," She bent down and picked up two more plates of scones from under the bed. She hadn't meant to spurt out such hurtful things, especially since he looked so apologetic, and it was not her place to do so, but she was red with rage.

message 25: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "I am so sorry." Gideon said. "I did not mean for you to find them." his face turned even redder. "I just wanted to see you Miss. Collins. I just wanted to meet you and I couldn't think of any other way to make you come up here." he looked down at his leg. "I would have surely come down myself so that you did not have to go through all that trouble but..." he gestured helplessly at his leg.

message 26: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Sophie didn't respond, but turned away and headed for the door. "I'll have to come and clean up the mess later, Mister Lightwood, but until then, I suggest you refrain from ordering anymore scones." She was clenching her fists in order to remain calm, however she was still shaking slightly with anger. Yet, she didn't want to take it out on Gideon at this moment, whom she did care for deeply, even if he had infuriated her.

message 27: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon stared open-mouthed after her, not knowing what to say now. He hadn't meant to make her so upset. All he'd wanted to do was to meet her. He buried his face in his hands and sighed. Well, that was the end of that then. Sophie hated him. He looked at Gabriel "Well, your courtship with Miss. Herondale couldn't have gone worse than this has, could it?"

message 28: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "Well if you mean I didn't cause her to storm out of my room in a fit of anger after insulting her social standing and her hard work, then yes, it went slightly better." However, upon seeing his brother's grief stricken face, he dropped the sarcasm. "However, I don't believe you've ever fallen to the floor in tears in front of Miss Collins?" He asked, trying to make Gideon feel better at his one of his weakest moments by sharing one of Gabriel's own.

message 29: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "Fallen to the floor in tears?" Gideon looked at him with some surprise. "Gabriel, is everything all right?" he looked towards his brother shrewdly trying to ascertain whether he was distressed or just being this sarcastic because he was tired. "I'm sure Miss. Herondale didn't mind." he added with a smile. "She would have deeply enjoyed comforting you."

message 30: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel wanted to tell his brother that, no, everything was not alright, but instead just nodded his head and said, " I'm not sure if she enjoyed it, but she did calm me down, Gideon." He still felt slightly upset with his brother for choosing Charlotte over him, but was starting to accept his decision.

message 31: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "You don't look all right at all to me." Gideon said. "You look like a walking ghost at this very moment. Looks like you've been out too long in the cold." he shook his head. "You should get some rest." he said, "And I'm not asking you."

message 32: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "I'm absolutely fine, Gideon," Gabriel said, before doubling over in another bout of coughing fits. After the coughing attack was over, Gabriel swore, and said, "I thought the runes would have taken care of that.. Issue." He looked absolutely upset, yet bewildered at the runes' failure.

message 33: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon tried to stand but failed miserably. His leg was still very bad. "Just sleep." he said. "I'm sure it's nothing." he still looked at Gabriel worriedley. The cough had sounded jarring and loud to his ears. "How long have you been having this issue?" he asked.

message 34: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "Since I was out helping Cecily," He responded, clutching his chest in agony and shaking slightly, fearing another attack. Gabriel laid back down on the bed, still trembling, "It comes and goes."

message 35: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "Do you want some medecine?" Gideon asked worriedley. "It could make you feel better." he leaned over to take Gabriel's temperature. "You seem to have a fever." he said. "And it's not slight."

message 36: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel waved him away, "I'm fine, I'm fine." He pushed himself off the bed and stood up, brushing off his slacks. "I think I'm going to go out and find Cec- Miss Herondale, she seemed quite nervous last time I saw her." His hands were quaking as he tried several times to open the door knob, and, upon doing so, left the room.

((Where's Cecily @?))

message 37: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon stared after him, hoping his brother was allright. He didn't look very good to him. He seemed very weak. He leant back on the bedsheets, hoping Gabriel would come back soon. He knew his brother would not listen to him so he did't bother trying to call him back.

((Isn't there a chapel in the Institute?))

message 38: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Idk u can make one if u want.))

message 39: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments ((Okay. I guess I remember reading about it. Cecily can be there.))

message 40: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments "He coughed up blood?" Henry exclaimed from his place in the corner. "Dear me, what seems to be ailing him Charlotte?" He clearly had not understood Charlotte's significant look from before. However, he was still curious- and worried, about this new information.
Tessa turned pale upon hearing about the blood again, and remembered when Jem had coughed up blood, and how stricken with horror she had been. She glanced at Cecily, only wondering how worried and grief stricken the young girl must be.

message 41: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments "Nothing a good night's sleep won't help." Charlotte said briskly, fluffung up the pillows. "It must just be because of the cold." "Are you sure?" Cecily asked. "He seemed-" "Of course I'm sure." Charlotte cut her off. "We should just leave him to get some rest." "I told him he should have stayed in the room." Gideon said, shaking his head in the typical fashion of an exasperated elder brother.

message 42: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel glared at his brother, particularly frustrated that he couldn't speak at this very moment. "Gideon," He coughed narrowing his eyes at his brothers exasperation.
"You really ought to be silent, Mr. Lightwor-Lightwood." Tessa blushed furiously at her blunder, and shot Will a look that said this is your fault, before turning back to Gabriel and clarifying. "Mr. Lightwood."
Gabriel's mouth was set in the firm line of someone who was particularly agitated, and didn't even bother looking at Will, for Gabriel knew he'd find a smirk on Will's face. Crossing his arms over his chest, Gabriel turned over on one side, trying not to look at the rest of them.
"Should I apologize?" Tessa whispered to Will, feeling very guilty indeed.

message 43: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Will was grinning, obviously delighted at Tessa's blunder. Cecily shot him a dark glare but he pretended to ignore it. "No. Don't apologize." he said. "That was one of the most amusing mistakes you've ever made. Savour it." Gideon put his hand over his brother's shoulder, a slight smile on his face even though Tessa's mistake shouldn't have made him of all people smile. "Go to sleep." he said. "He's right." Cecily said. "You have been through a lot today." she looked at him, her eyes begging him to listen for once.

message 44: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel saw Cecily's expression, and resentfully nodded in agreement, clearly only listening because Cecily had said so. "But I can hardly fall asleep with all of you in my room," He mumbled, already dozing off.
Tessa, still feeling bad about her mistake, heeded his directions and left, grabbing a grinning Will by the elbow and dragging him along with her. "Will, do you see what you've made me do?" She asked in an exasperated whisper as they left the room. When they were in the hallway, she let go of his elbow.
"Well I ought to be going as well," Henry remarked, eager for an excuse to leave. "Charlotte, I have something to show you, but if you want to stay here, I completely understand." He headed for the doors, awkwardly trying to make an escape.

message 45: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Since Will was already gone, Cecily gave Gabriel a quick hug. "You'll be all right." she whispered to him. You have to be." Gideon gave her an understandin smile. She did not look at him and quickly exited the room, blushing furiously.
"I did not make you do that!" Will said as Tessa dragged him outside. "How can you accuse me of that? It was your mistake." he smiled at her. "This makes me think you listen a little too intently to what I say." his blue eyes were sparkling with amusement.
Charlotte sighed and went after Henry. "I'll come with you." she said, following him outside. "I have to tell you something too." she looked at Gabriel one last time and satisfied he was comfortable, left the room, lraving the two brothers alone in the room.

message 46: by Genevieve (last edited May 20, 2014 09:11PM) (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments Gabriel was already asleep by the time Cecily was out the door, his breaths were jarred and short, however, while he slept.
Tessa buried her face in her hands, "Will!" She shook her head and removed her hands, sighing. "Poor Gabriel," She said, knowing that Will was not the right person to say this to, but continuing anyways. "He seemed so... Frail." She hesitated at saying the last word, worried that someone might overhear.
Henry turned to Charlotte, a puzzled expression on his face. "What is it Darling?" He asked, heading towards his work room, but walking at a slightly slower pace than he had been before.

message 47: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Won't be on for 15 mins))

message 48: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments Gideon gave him a worried look as he lay down. He was sure he wouldn't fall asleep very soon with Gabriel breathing so harshly but he closed his eyes and tried to anyway.
"I would have not agreed with you if I hadn't seen him." Will said, dropping his smirk. "That is exactly why I helped him. The first time I've ever been nice to a Lightworm."
Charlotte gave Henry a very scared look. "I'm afraid..." she began. "I'm afraid...Gabriel has pneumonia." she said. "I don't know how to help him. Henry, he could die."

message 49: by Genevieve (last edited May 20, 2014 10:08PM) (new)

Genevieve Carstairs (mirandacarstairs) | 1022 comments ((Pneumonia was actually life-threatening back then, so it does make a lot of sense.))

"And yet you still call him 'Lightworm'," Tessa said, giving Will a stern look, though her facial features softened as she continued. "However, it was nice what you did- helping him and all. I know you two were never on the greatest of terms, and your actions just there were respectable."

Henry paled, "Pneumonia? How did he get it? Was he out in the cold?" He was trying to make sure that Charlotte was correct before he jumped to conclusions, although he did not doubt her statement. "Has Sophie set a fire in his room?"

((Gtg))

message 50: by Ananya, Group Creator (new)

Ananya (ananyashenoy) | 1360 comments ((Yeah. Lots of people died of it back then))

Will's face showed no expression at all as it usually did when he was trying to hide what he felt. "I've known him for longer than I care to admit." he said carelessly. "And it was a wonderful opportunity to establish myself asa superior to him. Those oppurtunities do not appear often."

"I think he was out in the cold." Charlotte said calmly "And..." she paused. "So was Cecily." she paled slightly. "She might contract the symptoms too." her forehead creased in worry. "I must go find her." she said, starting to hurry away.
