annapi | 5515 comments Homicide detective Joe Cashin is recovering from a brush with death by taking a stint in his small home town. When a local bigwig is found dead in his home, it is blamed on three aboriginal youth who are killed in an encounter with the police. But Joe isn't convinced and starts to investigate.

Excellent mystery with an engaging protagonist. My only problem with the writing style is that it assumes too much that you understand what the author is referring to all the time. It's not the Aussie slang (and anyway the book had a glossary at the back for the ones I couldn't figure out in context) but I kept getting a bit confused as to who was who and their motives; more like a cultural thing. It's like the author keeps giving you a "look" that you are supposed to understand but you're not sure if you really did. Regardless, I enjoyed this and would recommend it.

Susie I'm glad you liked it annapi. It is one of my favourite books. If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one author with me I think Peter Temple would be my choice.
