Saviours can turn out to be captors. Character(s) may or may not even know that they have been captured or they realize that do not have as much freedom as they had previously thought. The abductor uses their captive for their own end's whether or not the MC is aware of this.

The Diamond of Darkhold Doon Harrow is captured and hobbled by The Troggs after the family had "discovered" Ember and rename the city Darkhold in their honor. Papa Trogg is afraid that Doon will tell other people about his city so he and his son hobbled Doon so he can't run away from them, but can still walk around. That way he can help them out and earn his keep.

Misery Paul Sheldon is "saved" from a car crash by his number one fan Annie Wilkes. While taking care of Paul Annie reads the next Misery novel and finds out that Misery dies at the end. She becomes enraged, and forces Paul to write a new novel that undoes Misery's death. Paul, being too injured to leave her house, is totally dependent on Annie, and so begins his fight to find a way to write Misery back to life, all while Annie subjects him to all manner of deranged (and sometimes horrific) ministrations.

Dorothy Must Die my is rescued by Mombi the price for this rescued is to join their order and kill Dorothy for them. The "good" witches even cast a spell on her to prevent her from physically leaving them, and to top it all off they even try to use Amy potential love interest Nox to get Amy and Nox to stay. In case the spell wears off they'll stay for love not the good of Oz.

The Singer his feet are chained, injured, scarred, and bleeding, meaning that he is essentially a prisoner, only kept for this one event because of his talent. The implication is that she and the others with Gifts, that the Counsel has saved for these jobs, are also prisoners. Their gifts are in control of the Council, by tenants who without any creativity of their own seek to control these three, in order to provide a future which they want.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but In Octavia Butler's Lilith's Brood the remaining humanity is "saved" by an alien race with secret agenda. The remaining people are kept on their ship and one person has the task to convince them to cooperate.


In Armor the MC is being used, he knows something is wrong, but not the system that uses him. He goes into his first battle and is the only survivor left. However the whole platoon is marked off as dead in their computer system. (view spoiler)[The same system keeps assigning him to active duty for every mission due to a bug. So he has to deal with the psychological stress of that. (hide spoiler)]

In sci-fi the idea of one bio-form over taking another is not something unusual (and it is probably the only genre I can recommend books from). Here is one book with such premises in case you are interested in yet more sci-fi: The Military Form.
Also The Handmaid's Tale which you probably have read.

Most of Octavia Butlers stories involve captivity themes in some form. Try, Fledgling. MC is not the captive (could argue she is bound by ignorance and biology). There is consensual sex, and it is creepy because the MC looks like a child, but she is not. Bloodchild is a short story, that gave me a few nightmares, more in line with Lilith's Brood.
The Eyes of the Dragon, is not typical King. I would describe it as a heroic fairy tale.

Ok, I'm reading Unwelcome Bodies and it's dark SFF that explores humanity.

There are two stories so far that might fit your requirement. The First is called Big sister/Little sister - not to say too much but either becomes a captive in her own turn.

The second story is called Captive Girl and where the girl is kept in a facility for the greater good, however the story turns romance, but it is about a human connection and how what happened to her changed her. It is in my opinion worth reading it and it can be read here for free as well: http://transcriptase.org/fiction/pell...

I really hope if you read it it fits your requirement. The romance aspect is just part of exploring the story, and I'm not sure if it could really be called a romance.

P.S. Always wanted to visit Canada. I used to live in a place with short cold winter and miss the crunching of show bellow my steps that sounds like someone is walking behind you. So weird.

I'm glad you don't mind me posting. I like dark themes so I when I read something I wonder if it fits your requirement. I think the idea of captivity is one that has been exploit quite a lot in literature, it's just often not obviously stated. I mean this would be very much what the dystopian genre is about, right?

Reflex has the MC caught, and cleverly enslaved.

The novelization of the movie made from the first book (which is quite different from the book), has some capturing, but I don't know if has a lot of 'use'.

In one of the Merchant Prince books, the government captures a interdimensional teleporter, and uses them to transport a marine recon/elite soldier to another world - but it's not a huge focus of the book, merely a couple scenes, maybe a chapter.

I don't recall which book it was in. I don't think it was in the first book. But, as I said, it wasn't a huge portion of the book. At most a couple chapters had scenes in them. Not sure it's worth getting, if you're after that type of thing specifically.
