Any particular type of horror you enjoy?

message 3: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jodi182) | 3 comments Any and everything really!

message 4: by Cora (new)

Cora (missteacher333) | 12 comments The Bighead by Edward Lee was terrific but you need to have a strong stomach. Stephen King's old works are usually faithful, Night Shift in particular if you want short stories. Endless Night by Richard Layman was alright, (also splatter punk genre of horror). Hope that helps!

Hi Jodie,
Try The Ruins by Scott Smith. It's not available on kindle so you'd have to get a copy from your library. It's worth it. Also anything by Richard Laymon.

message 7: by Nick (new)

Nick (veryevildead) | 26 comments Laird Barron lately really creeps me out. I would start with any of his short story collections or his novel The Croning.

Marie I have discovered Ambrose Ibsen - this book is creepy - haunted house setting A House By The Sea (Winthrop House Book 1) by Ambrose Ibsen

Brian Keene - Dark Hollow Dark Hollow by Brian Keene

message 9: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 6 comments Hello all. I'm looking for horrific fantasy. Set in second world, with lots of dark horrific things happening, but not necessarily straight horror. I'm having a hard time pinpointing exactly what I mean... but something with good plot, good atmosphere, and great characters.

Thanks!

J.C. (jcmatheson) | 4 comments Currently reading my first Stephen King book - From Buick 8. only 1/3rd of the way in but its SO good. Think Stranger Things but with a car instead of a house.
Also, if youre okay with graphic novels then I'd highly recommend Joe Hills Locke & Key series.

Angel Manor was good indeed! I haven't seen the others before. I'll look into them as you obviously have good taste.

I know! I've been meaning to read his stuff for a long, long time but have been preoccupied with Lovecraft's stories. Now I can finally see what all the fuss is about. :)

Some of his best IMO are:

Horror
Carrie by Stephen King Misery by Stephen King Pet Sematary by Stephen King Firestarter by Stephen King

Other
11/22/63 by Stephen King The Green Mile by Stephen King Joyland by Stephen King

Of course I haven't read them all. Yet. I didn't like Dark Tower and thought It was far too long, but that might just be me.

I Reaaally want to read Carrie next. Sounds right up my street. Yeah my friend has sworn by the DarkTower series but I am a little put off by the size of the series.

message 27: by Ines (new)

Ines (imaginary_space) For fans of the Cthulhu myth, I strongly recommend this book:
The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
It has all of the good mythos elements without the outdated-ness of most of the classic mythos writing. I loved it!

Josephine (josephine_stein) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I would definately recommend Blood Ink by Aurelia Young. I recently got into dark fantasy because of this particular book. There are some gore bits in it and there is blood magic. So if you like dark fantasy with gore... this is the book you want!
