This book has been fundamental for me. I am hoping that a wider-based and detailed discussion of its various aspects would help with creating a foundation for more peaceful and aware discussions in a globalised arena. I am a psychotherapist and volunteer at a Rape Crisis Centre in UK and found this book to be of profound assistance in being with women who found themselves in abusive relationships, or been attacked and raped, or been submitted to sexual violence. At the time of its publication this book was hailed as a seminal turning point towards integrating the female experience into the realm of the studies of subjective and psychological phenomena. This is both a practical and deeply philosophical text. I came to it via her collaborations with Richards on the book
. While reading her follow-up book
I found it necessary to go backwards and read this 1982 book revealing the difference in women's voices as they discuss life and death situations. I strongly feel that this author's material is the base for constructive formative discussion among and between men and women.
