I'm only reading 2 chapters which aren't written as chapters, but rather dates. So I've stopped at December 21. A rather good beginning if I don't say so myself!

Don't know why Fischer would agree unless he's fulfilling a death-wish. Nothing could make me go back, not even money.

He seems totally untrusting of Florence's assertions about Belasco's son, but has no problem believing that she used the house's energy to trash the dining room and hurt him. (hide spoiler)]

I'm a little behind on this. I'm fascinated by these "spirit cabinets." Had to Google them to get a clearer picture.

Yes, Terry, I think that is pretty much his position. He believes in energies rather than actual 'entities'. Hell House was one of the first horror novels I read (as opposed to short stories). I re-read it about three years ago, and it remains a favorite. As does Richard Matheson. Enjoy!

Thanks, David. I am enjoying. I liked I Am Legend, also, but those are the only Matheson books I've read so far. Look forward to reading a couple more.

Yes, Daniel is his son (at least Florence thinks so).

I did the same. Seems almost like a cheat box, in lots of cases!

Ok pretty sure Edith won't make it. She's too vulnerable to the house. I only made it to 11:16 which is like pg 112 or something like that. Still behind you. I work too much on the weekends! Anyway. I'll try to catch up today. I also enjoyed the part about the cat. Poor Florence! That must have been so painful!

Do u think Florence is on the right track? Sometimes I think she is, but I'm not sure.

I think Edith is the one to guess won't make it, too. With Florence, I think the spirits are taking advantage of her and what she thinks she knows isn't going to turn out to be right. I'm still at 6:27pm and I'll wait till you get there too, which is giving me a chance to make progress on Cold Moon (which is really good!).

Sorry. Haven't read a thing today. Seems like I keep getting hours at work even though I don't need them....anyway, I'm off tomm so I shud be able to get some reading done.

There is no way that the Doctor should have brought Edith with him. That was just asking for trouble!

When Florence lets Daniel write on the pad of paper and he writes one way only, what do u think that means?

Good question. I wondered about that also. Do you think he means that the only way to help him is to give herself up in his place?

True, but he doesn't believe there's any intelligence behind the energy trapped ..."

I can see what you're saying about how his point of view would affect that decision, but the results from the previous group that visited the house, I would have thought, would make them not feel comfortable enough to have her there, at least not initially - but, we wouldn't have the story if he did :)

Yes, that's what I thought. But by submitting, do u mean possess her? That's kind of what I had in mind, although I don't know what that would accomplish.

I was able to get it finished today. I liked this one for a couple of reasons. (view spoiler)[ I liked that although I figured Emeric was behind what was happening, there was enough mystery with the Daniel storyline to keep me guessing. The idea that Emeric was using the idea of Daniel to manipulate Florence so that he could use her energy against herself and the others is clever. I like that both Barrett and Florence ended up being right. I guess that if Emeric's room hadn't been lead lined, Barrett would have won outright. I like that ultimately, Fischer survived, figured out what was going on, and vindicated himself. He seemed deserving of it. I was glad my speculating was wrong and that Edith did survive in the end. (hide spoiler)] Great Halloween read!
