This thread is now open for you to join GROUP 36 by adding your GR (not Amazon) book link. We have 10 places – I’ll add your name as you sign in. We’ll aim to get started in just a few weeks so once you’ve signed in watch for a message that we’re ready to start.

When you add your book link it not only indicates you want to join the group – it indicates you AGREE that you are WILLING TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.

There is no genre filtering.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genres then sorry, but you’re better off finding a group that specialises in your preference. Here you might be asked to review fiction/non-fiction, adults’/children’s books, a religious text, BDSM, or anything in between. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by 19 August 2014.

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews of 3, 4 or 5 stars must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

If the rating is 1 or 2 stars, the review must be posted to GR but the author should be asked if they want the review to go to Amazon or not.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

You have the next week to exchange your book files. My advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). I'll stay with you for the next week to answer your questions then Emma will take over as your group moderator. Happy reviewing, everyone :)

I intially assumed we'd be purchasing the novels in kindle version from Amazon but I realise now it is a free review swap.

I just wanted to check with everyone that PDF is okay. It's the only format I'm able to use at the moment.

Would this be a problem for anyone? (finger crossed- hoping not :-0

PDF is fine for me James, but if you in KDP select you can always schedule a free promotion day, like I have so your reviews are 'verified.'

I'm with a small publishers - not self published so I'm not sure I would be able to do this. I'll check if my publishers are willing to agree to a free download period.

It is in the rules that pdf is OK when none other is available. I like the Smashwords publishing route - you can just give a 100% discount coupon as and when you like then, and the 'buyer' can choose any format to download.

Here's a question about the .pdf versus buying the book issue. Does this group allow us to give a gift coupon so that our reviewer can "buy" our book for free on Amazon? I was wondering about that because Amazon has "verified purchase" and it seems to carry more weight.

You can use any method to get your book to the reviewer, as long as the reviewer isn't required to pay for it, and its within the round time frame.

Since Lee sent her book first and changed it to the short Novelette Shadow and Spice I reviewed my 4th round first. Because of the star system differences I gave two different numbers.

A word of warning here, though - both parties have to be on the same site. I was gifted a book on .com and wasn't allowed to use it as I'm registered on .co.uk.

Could I quickly ask if what I hear is true about Amazon taking down peer reviews/ unverified purchase reviews. I've never spoken with anyone this has actually happened to- is it just a rumour?

Also, it seems that in UK we can't gift a kindle book. I don't really understand why.
