He was coming.

She could see him if she dared to turn her head in her frantic run to safety, but she didn't dare. She'd seen too many horror movies to know how that would turn out. She would inevitably trip and fall and be too scared to get up again and die. Well, then again this wasn't a stupid movie, and being on the track team meant she had actually outpaced him by a lot so she made sure nothing was in her direct path before chancing a glance behind her.

What she saw was grotesque.

His form was changing as he raced after her, skin tearing, blood splattering on the concrete beneath him. She could hear, even from here, the sounds of bone snapping. His body was some freakish mixture of animals, his skin splitting and ripping open to reveal thick white fur, mouth stretching forward, giving a demented grin for a long moment as his face ripped open to reveal his teeth as they stretched into a muzzle. She was already running again full speed before she saw him hunch forward, before the long, scorpion tail burst through his clothing to arch up over his back, dripping poison and ready to be used. He was a monster, but real. The manifestation of nightmares mixed with some kind of black magic that let him shift his form in such ways as he lumbered after her, now on all fours.

She couldn't even scream, she didn't have anyone to scream for. The town was empty, a mistake she now regretted as she dashed for the only safety she had; her car. If she could get in, she would just drive, not look back just go and never come again. Her keys were safe in her pocket, and she wouldn't draw them until she was close for fear of dropping them from fingers made clumsy by fear.

She was almost in the home free, almost to safety, when there was suddenly a searing pain in her back. Screaming in pain, car just a few feet away, safety so close she could almost touch it, the pain brought her to the ground, and something warm and hot dripped down her back. She turned her head to stare up into the mutilated face of the one chasing her, withdrawing his claws. How had he caught up to her so fast? Why hadn't she heard him? She tried to crawl towards her car, but it was too late. The man....the creature, no the monster grabbed her as she tried to crawl away, dragging her near as his poisoned tail snaked out with lightning speed and stung her, repeatedly, jabbing the large, poisoned point into her body again and again, not even killing her through the poison as he started to tear into her with his claws, wanting to destroy her entirely. When her body stopped moving....well, what was left of it anyways, he turned his mutilated and bloodied muzzle up to the sky and let out a grotesque roar, announcing to the world that he had come. And he would kill them all. He was awakened, and he would not stop until they were all dead once and for all.
