History and Theory of Architecture and Design
1.1 Recognise key periods, names, styles and concepts which form the basic language used to discuss architecture and design.
1.2 Evaluate learning styles and skills needs, plan and achieve improved learning performance, and demonstrate competence in a range of common information technology applications.
1.3 Identify examples of contemporary architecture and design and explain their significance in the thematic terms of the course.
1.4 Work effectively in a group to plan, prepare and deliver an assignment.
1.5 Structure an essay to present a proposal, discuss the case for and against, and draw a conclusion using relevant information retrieved from a variety of sources, adhering to the conventions of scholarship as taught.

Design Process and Communication
2.1 Describe formal and spatial qualities.
2.2 Explore materials, design processes and model-making.
2.3 Apply graphic representation techniques including sketching, hand drawing and CAD.
2.4 Demonstrate conventions for orthographic, axonometric and perspective drawing.
2.5 Maintain a sketchbook recording and reflecting upon design processes.
2.6 Present an organised portfolio of work.

Contextual Design Projects
3.1 Demonstrate analysis of brief, site and context.
3.2 Demonstrate analysis of precedents informing design.
3.3 Demonstrate development of spatial and formal qualities in architectural design.
3.4 Apply strategies for integrating structural, constructional and environmental considerations in the design of buildings and site.
3.5 Maintain a sketchbook recording and reflecting upon personal development and design proposals.
3.6 Demonstrate clear presentation of design process and detailed design in exhibition.

Buildable, Habitable Design
4.1 Demonstrate analysis of building materials and construction processes in precedent studies related to the development of design projects.
4.2 Demonstrate analysis of anthropometric, ergonomic, access and escape factors in buildings.
4.3 Illustrate the mechanisms of heat transfer under steady state conditions.
4.4 Identify the factors that influence the experience of thermal, visual and aural comfort in buildings.
4.5 Demonstrate the principles of passive solar design in a design project.
4.6 Identify strategies for structure, materials, construction, environmental design and detail design in design projects.
4.7 Communicate strategies and details through physical models, detailed construction sections and detail drawings.
