Rob Burton | 4 comments Hello,

Im a new fiction author. Firstly I am unsure what my genre is and Agents/Publishers need to know that perhaps someone can clear that up for me after reading it - paranormal/ghost/mystery/crime/thriller? I want to call it a paranormal crime thriller - but that doesn't tick the boxes.

The title is 'Meditations on Murder. - its a murder mystery without a murder - is how I'm describing it for the moment. Its finished and edited by me at 75,000 words.

This is a story in which a ghost from 12C Scotland features strongly, she is haunting the iPhone of a guy who has realised he needs to kill his cheating girlfriend and best buddy, his murderous meditations have drawn Nye, the ghost to this side of the silver veil but has also left the veil open for the murderous redcaps - dwarves that haunt the borders of Scotland who are after Charlie - the main voice of the novel.

Its set in London, I use some local slang and dialects. Nye the Ghost speaks in a broad Scottish accent. There are some swearing words and some gore in the last few chapters.

I have had some, not a lot of feedback on my first chapter, but friends who offer to read are so unreliable and never really get back with anything critical

So I would love a complete read with some critical feedback - I can take it, Ive been an academic for 20 years writing academic papers so constructive criticism I can take.

I've had two refusals of my first 3 chapters from agents so I want to refrain from putting it out there to other agents until I have had some feedback from people I can trust.

Thanks, in advance for any help you are willing to offer - even first 3 chapters would be good. (But Nye doesn't appear till chat 5. :-) )

M. Harrison (mharrison) | 4 comments Hi, Rob. If you haven't found anyone reliable to read your manuscript, I have a beta reading service that my editing company offers. We do a full read-through and you get a written report detailing the good, the bad, and the ugly. Pricing depends on word count, but it's a great value...especially if you are trying to figure out where you can improve.

If you're interested, shoot me an email at mh@harrisonedit.com and I can send you back a quote.

Have a great day!
