Seraphina entered the music classroom, holding her flute in one hand, and a violin over her shoulder. She seemed to be the only one here... Not that that was a bad thing. She hadn't met many of the other students, and she wasn't sure she wanted to yet. She still hadn't bonded with her own dragon, but she'd liked the ones whom she'd spoken to.
Juliette ran into the class with a flower crown hanging precariously on her head. She was late, like usual. She had a guitar case in one hand, a flute case strapped to her belt,a violin case in the other hand, and a large tote-bag slung on her shoulder, loose papers peeking out. She sat at her usual seat right up against the window, setting down her instruments gently before fixing her lopsided flower crown, a dreamy expression settling into her blue eyes as she looked at the scenery outside. The sky was so blue today, and the grass was so green, it was a pity that she still had classes- as much as she loved this class in particular, nothing beat getting drunk on the beauty of nature.
Oh. She wasn't alone anymore. She tried not to be too disappointed. It would have been too much to hope that she would be the only one to show up to music class... And this particular class might be the right one to find a friend in. Music might be something she could find in common with the other students...
Juliette ended up opening up her guitar case and taking out her guitar, tuning it and then strumming an intricate guitar solo that had been floating in her mind for some time. Her father had told her she needed to start writing down these songs that wandered into her brain and compose some music from time to time but Juliette always forgot the songs by the time she found the willpower to sit down and try to write them down. She closed her eyes focused on harmonizing, letting her fingers roam freely around the fingerboard.
"That was... Beautiful," Seraphina whispered, finding the courage to speak after the song was finished. She hadn't learned the guitar, yet, but she'd always wanted to.
Juliette's eyes snapped open, the bright blue flashing. Her head swiveled around to find a girl sitting near her, the only other person in the classroom, in fact, and her face broke out into a smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling up. "Thank you! It's just a little something that wandered into the corners of my mind and I had to help it along and let it out. These little tunes aren't too different from birds with broken wings." Jules said, still a little dreamy, as if she wasn't completely present in the moment. She snapped out of it, giving the other girl another warm smile and noting- "I haven't seen you here before."
She nodded. "You wouldn't have. I just joined a few days ago..." And she hadn't really left her room since then, except for meals.
"Oh! I love it when new people join the academy. I'm Jules, actually, it's Juliette, but no one actually calls me that." The girl said with a slight laugh. "I'm guessing you play the violin and the... flute?" She asked, looking at the shape of the cases that the girl had brought in.
She nodded. "Seraphina. And yes. I also play the clarinet, the oboe, the harp, and the piano. I don't own my own, though... Just the violin and flute." She was starting to like this girl, which was strange. She hadn't liked anyone back home...
"Oh, that's such a pretty name. It fits you splendidly," Juliette said, sincerity radiating from her small form. "I play the flute and violin, as well, along with some other instruments. Basically, if it has strings, keys, reeds, or valves, I can coax it into making music."
She smiled. "Thank you. Your name is beautiful, as well. I've always wanted to play more, but my village didn't have a very large selection..."
Juliette nodded with understanding. "I know what you mean. Before the academy, there wasn't much selection- we had a music festival every year, though, so I taught myself how to play on my father's cello. Of course, then, I wanted to learn how to play every instrument in existence and to start off, I made myself a violin."
"Yeah. I was really good friends with the carpenter, because he really was the sweetest old man, and he showed me the basics of carving and whittling. After that, it all comes down to expression and precision." Juliette blanked out again, looking outside the window with a distant expression on her face for a couple minutes, before turning back to Seraphina. "But enough about me. What about you? Play something for me! I love listening to other people play."
She bit her lip. "I'm not sure I'm all that good..." She thought she was alright, but she'd only ever played in her village... There were probably much better musicians, here...
"Oh, everyone who plays has a talent of some sort, it just takes some longer than others to draw it out. If you're in the class, then you can play, and if you can play a tune, I want to hear it." Juliette said, her face set in determination, although it was hard to take it seriously for the dreamy quality in her eyes. "Please?"
