Don't you just love it when you have absolutely no idea where the plot is going? This just gets richer and richer!
Yes! I am enjoying how things are sort of flipped on their heads, and seeing each character through the other characters' eyes.
It is interesting that there is no designated place for discussion of Ch. XVIII--a very long chapter where our four young people (I keep thinking Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice) encounter each other by chance, and a sort of square dance begins. Approach, retreat, do-se-do. There is much physical action--"..they had begun an argument which swung their feet along so rhythmically in time with it, that they covered the ground at over four miles an hour..." and description of how that activity feels. Ralph realizes that Mary loves him and decides to propose. Katharine states that her marriage to William would be a "farce". Ralph and Katharine make a plan to meet in London. And around we go.

I will amend accordingly.
