For some reason, I thought this would be a action-packed "super hero-esque" novel, based on the cover alone. It's not.I was in tears the first chapter. (view spoiler)
I was flying through it last month until I realized it wasn't October's read. *palm to forehead*
I probably won't get to this til later in the month unless I can snag a hard copy; got the audio on my Overdrive wish list (they've done an update that I'm not a fan of) but after I finish Golden Compass I've got 2 other audiobooks in the queue next. I'm excited in a terrified sort of way since the blurb compares it to Code Name Verity (that book WRECKED me).
Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "Oh wow Elora - I thought the same thing!"I should clarify. It's got action, but it's really gritty and just plain sad in places. But it delves deeper into character lives than most action books do.
I really enjoyed the alternate history in this novel. Almost reminds me of Brigid's pick, Wolf by Wolf. Since I enjoyed that thought I would enjoy this as well.

yes, it was. Maybe because these events are told in present tense. We get to see and feel the emotions of the girls. Makes you a bit attached to them.
Where as Yael's life was told through flashback and we only get tidbits of it. The impact it gives you are in doses.

Crap. I should have grabbed this at the library last week. I was going to get it today and someone checked it out :( I put it on hold so will for sure get to it - not sure when, but I will :)
I JUST downloaded this via Kindle and actually PAID for it - I have KU, so mostly read free books, but I want to join in with group readings on Goodreads more so than in the past, so here I go! Front Lines it is! :0)
Huh- despite paying FULL PRICE for Front Lines for my Kindle, it just will not load past page 5...This has never happened with any ebook I have bought before....The universe doesn't want me in this group! *SOB*!
Oh no! Contact Amazon Jennifer! They are always awesome when I contact them. Don't give up! I want a reading buddy!
Haha I'm so behind on the group reads. I still want to try this though, it sounds interesting! And since you guys said it's kind of like Wolf by Wolf, that makes me all the more intrigued. :D
JENNIFER: Hope you got your ebook straightened out, if not you need to contact them ASAP!
BRIGID: their similarities is more in the alternate history aspect.

Ok so I am super behind but I wanted to give an update that I am over half done with the audio of this one. I like it so far. I am not super attached to any of the main characters yet but that could change at any time I am sure :) I like that they are all spunky in their own way and I like the idea of females fighting in WW 2.
I get what you mean. It tool me awhile to get attached to a particular character and even now I'm not overly attached to any of them, but I love their stories. It's an interesting alternate history
Thanks Bluemoon - I am still listening to it daily but only gte about 25-30 minutes in at a time so it is slow going
I finally finished this one!!! I am only a few months behind. This was a solid 3.5 stars for me. It was well written and the story flowed well. I also liked the over all concept. My only issue was that at times it felt like the author was trying too hard to overly toughen up the protagonists to the point it felt a little fake to me and I never 100% got attached to any or the three main gals. Having said that, I could see why others would love this one and it was definitely worth the read.
HEIDI: I gave that exact same rating and thought the same way. Not particularly attached to any of them, but love the story.
