Hallo all! I know it's still early, but the holidays is just around the corner and we all know how busy those months can be. Plus, I feel like the months are just flying by. So I'm starting this brainstorming idea earlier this year.

This hidden gem thing is such a blast and we've all read books that's beyond our comfort zone. So I ask you all, do we want to continue this for 2017 or should we try something different?

As usual, we're open for ideas.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) I am new to the group-- HI! -- and was wondering if you read books that have physical copies or do you sometimes pick selections that only exist in Kindle format? Thanks :)

Jennifer we prefer both print and ereader formats so people can get them from their libraries if possible

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) Awesome- thanks! Is there a November choice??

message 5: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments I personally LOVE the hidden gems....but I only participated last year, so it's not old for me.

Yes. We have a thread for our monthly reads each month. I have to pick for Dec. I think so I better get moving!

Here is the Nov. book thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 19: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments So.....it's nearly January. Sort of. Anyway, I volunteer as tribute. I mean, I can totally take January's pick if no one minds.

Thanks so much Elora!!! I have been slacking lately. Do you have any ideas?? I say we start with the list we have - I am sure several of us will be ok with picking up the extra months.

Anyone in for Feb. March, April, May, June, July?? I think that covers the months for the people who have volunteered. If no one cares which month they get I will just appoint a month for people but I wanted to check first to see if anyone had a preference.

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Great!! I was thinking Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys or On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

Do you guys think they're too mainstream to be a hidden gem?

I don't think they're too mainstream, but I think a lot of us may have read these...I haven't read Jellicoe Road yet though.

Ergh. I was afraid of that.

I also thought about The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy, #1) by Amy Engel
It isn't nearly as magical as the other two picks, but it was quite interesting.

Any thoughts??

message 24: by Ashley Marie (last edited Dec 20, 2016 06:08AM) (new)

Ashley Marie I'll take February! (I may have already decided on my book)

Elora, I still haven't read Salt to the Sea xD I'm cool with any of your picks though.

message 41: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I don't know if it's necessarily YA but we are the YA & Beyond group :) my picks are generally books I've owned and meant to read for ages so it won't be a reread for me lol

Haha...You are so funny! I freak out and make sure it's a great book before I recommend. :)
It's one of my life-long goals to be more easy going, but I just can't seem to shake it.

OOOO I am the March pick. BTW I think we need to double up on people picking because we only have enough through April. p.s. I would like to have a catch up month because I am two months behind and would like to still read all the picks. Maybe May can be the catch up month and then we would just need to over June-Dec. Sound OK??

p.s. I will get my pick for March up soon.

message 50: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I think I am going with The Raging Quiet The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan for March. It looks like nearly none of my GR friends have read it and it is just really unique and sweet. It is unlike nearly anything else I have read and I hope others feel the same :)
