I finished the book and watched the movie today. I will be interested to hear people's thoughts once they finish up. It wasn't the ending I WANTED, but I expected it and felt like it was a peaceful ending to a book. How far are you all?

Jessiy Lewis | 11 comments I am on chapter 17 and I am loving this book. I Am hoping to finish it this week. The story line is wonderful however I am excited and nervous to see how the book ends. Also I can't stand Patrick.

Vaguely spoilerish review:
I enjoyed this book a lot, it represented the right to die debate very well and fairly. The only part that bothered me is that many characters felt like a means to an end, they were one-dimensional and were only there to serve a purpose. (Like Patrick is only there to provide a contrast to Will and show an example of a bad relationship). When you get towards the end of the book you won't want to put it down, you'll probably cry a little (or maybe a lot), and you'll feel like screaming at the characters in the book several times. I would have no problem recommending this book.

I'm on chapter four. I don't like anyone yet except for Lou and Nathan. Patrick needs to leave, Treena is annoying and seems to only think about herself, regarding the college thing that happens at the end of chapter three.

Okay I'm on chapter 17 currently and I have a rant:

Louisa is annoying me very much currently. She needs to tell Patrick to go away and she also needs to admit to herself that she is starting to care about Will, she's not just "worrying about him" at this point, she cares about him. Having had a quadriplegic in my life and very close to me (my dad), some of the stuff in this book makes me so frustrated because I recognize it as behavior that is all to common, the looks of pity, the friends who stop coming to see you all together, the people that you thought would be there for you not being there, it sucks, and I wish Louisa would just let herself be Will's friend. I also wish she would stand up for herself in regards to her family, she shouldn't let them control her so much. She kind of reminds me of a high schooler most of the time, she doesn't act 26. Anyway, that's it for now, more when I finish.

It only gets worse before it gets better I'm afraid. Also yes, Louisa reminded me of a high schooler for most of the book.

I'm finished now. I love love love Will. Louisa still annoys me, but none of the characters annoyed me as much as Patrick. He is an ass. Anyway, I enjoyed the book. Her parents were also kind of awful toward the end. Treena redeemed herself in my eyes.

Jessiy Lewis | 11 comments I loved this book I loved will. I love the way he changed Louisa's life. There relationship was one of a kind . The end of the book made me cry because in the end I really think will loved Louisa. I am really thinking of reading the sequel

I know that Emma is reading the sequel and I probably will too.

To those who have also watched the movie: What did you think?

I'll be honest, neither the book or the movie hit on my emotions the way I expected. Sure there were times that I was sad. But was prepared to ugly cry my way through both, and I just didn't feel that strongly about it. It was a "peaceful" read for me. All that being said I was amazed at the films authenticity. Honestly the best book to movie crossover thang I can think of.

Book and movie spoilers
(view spoiler)

Heather (thebooknerdmom) I read this book over the summer and I'm in the process of re-reading it now. When I first read it, I kept hoping things would turn out differently in the end, even though deep down I knew they weren't going to. While Louisa was sort of frustrating and/or annoying at times, I think that Jojo Moyes did a decent job at creating a character that was recognizable, even if she was not really relate-able. I also liked watching the relationship that developed between Louisa and Will, and although this book for the most part didn't arouse super intense emotions in me, I did feel invested in the characters and the story line, so it left me feeling torn about Will's decision and Louisa trying to get him to change his mind. I suppose that's normal, though, for a topic as heavy as this book is centered around.

I agree with earlier comments about frustrations with other characters in the book. I got so annoyed every time she was with Patrick, and the self-centered act with Treena--especially when her parents gave up their room!--got me so heated.

I have not yet watched the movie but I definitely want to, and I also want to read the sequel.
