Ellen wrote: "Ooh I see now, thanks Peggy, (think my phone hides things!)"Devices! They'll be the death of us yet :(
3 more read...A Tale of Two Murders
Murder at the Old Vicarage
Blood in the Glens: True Crimes from the Scottish Highlands
I'm not doing to good this year! Only four and a half so far! Still reading The Silver Darlings which I was so looking forward to and then hit a reading drought. Hope I can make the trip all the way to John O'Groats this year!
Well Peggy usually once summer hits I find a lot more time to read... the longer daylight hours help for one thing, and for us, an easier schedule. I bet you will make your goal : )

Peggy wrote: "Finished Silver Darlings so thats me at 5! I'm thinking a Peter May book next."Yay! congrats! I just started an Ann Cleeves. I really like her!
I'm on my first ever Peter May book and enjoying it - he captures Scottish islands so well! Can see why you, and so many others here, recommended him :)
The book is The Blackhouse, by the way.

He does Ellen, a wonderful sense of place in all his books. I find them hard to put down.
Haven't been around much the last couple of weeks and haven't gotten much reading done either. I've been dealing with a kidney stone. Had surgery last Wednesday to get rid of the pesky devil and can get back to living again!

Hope you're feeling better, Peggy, be sure to take it easy - lots of cups of tea, feet up and a good book, I think! Or coffee, or iced-tea (what is that??) as you're in America! Take care :)

I brew a pot with 9 tea bags and then add water to make a gallon at a time. We don't sugar ours though. Although I grew up on sweet tea. I enjoy hot tea too and often drink it in the evenings. I'm bad about not drinking enough through the day and have to improve on that. I was told we are in the Kidney Stone belt of the US here! They say the south has more than anywhere else in the US and they've done studies but don't really know why.
Coffin Road by Peter MayThe Stormy Petrol by Mary Stewart
Lord Mullion’s Secret by Michael Innes
A Far Cry From Kensington by Muriel Sparks
Four more only bring me up to 9!! I am not going to make the challenge this year! So ashamed. I seem to be reading more vintage mysteries this year than I have been in the last few years. I have to do 12 more before the end of the year to meet my level! YIKES. I need to get into my shelves and map out my reading for the rest of the year.
It's also important to read what you love. And you don't want to your Scottish reads to become a chore! My last trip to the library, I mainly took out children's book and Young Adult. I wonder what they think when I'm in there (I'm 26). Of course I threw in a murder or two, but then that looked weird next to all these kiddy books! Anyway, I'm enjoying them, and vintage murder mysteries sound fabulous!

Too bad there aren't more Scottish vintage mystery writers!
When I started blogging I got caught up in all the 'challenges' and then you get locked in to reading certain books and don't feel free to grab what looks good at the moment. I've been moving away from those. This year I only signed up for Bev's vintage covers scavenger hunt and I've been enjoying so many wonderful mysteries. She's the one that got me started blogging and she is a huge vintage mystery fan.check out her reading at http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/. I've found so many good 'old' books through her and other blogs I've found through her. Checkout my blog at https://peggysporchsite.wordpress.com.
I remember going to the children's section in the library to get all the Anne of Green Gable books! LOVED them. L.M. Montgomery's books are all good.
Michel Innes is a great older mystery writer! If you like mysteries check him out!
I'll finish this book tonight or tomorrow and that will end me out at only 10 books! I did horrible! I seemed to veer off, back to my first love vintage mysteries and I can't find many of those written by Scots. There's always next year. I enjoyed following everyone else though and getting to know so many nice folks, even fairy folks over at Ellen's blog! She is quite talented you know!
Happy New Year everyone!
