Anya strolled in, yawning slightly. She couldn't sleep, so late night reading was the only option. But the stubs of candle were too small to read an entire chapter, so she came down for the oil lamps. She didn't notice anyone as she flopped into a reading chair.
Having been ditched by her best friend Lily who had gone to meet her dragon bond Sapphira sat alone in the library. The girls spent a lot of time in here studying or just reading in comfortable silence. She looked up when she heard someone come in and saw it was a red-headed girl probably a few years older than her.
The chair she flopped into was fairly near Sapphira, and Anya sighed and opened up the book, a cumulative knowledge about dragons she'd been writing. How much of it was invalid now?
Sapphira closed the book making sure to mark her page and set it down next to her, turning her attention to the girl next to her. She thought she might have seen her around, but she didn't know her name. "Hello," she said figuring she initiate the conversation.
She jumped and whipped around. "Oh, um, hi," she said, sure they were in the same classes. She hid the book behind her back.
((That's fine I don't mind))"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you." she told her, "I'm Sapphira," she said politely. Her brother always teased her that the only time she was polite was with strangers.
"Anya," she said, "Kylash." She reached forward and shook Sapphira's hand. "It's very good to meet you."
She smiled, "Its nice to meet you too Anya." she told her honestly. She didn't have many friends outside of Lily and her family and it would be nice to make more.
"Are you new here?" she asked, having made no other friends other than Feldrer, and then, well... That had ended.
"Yeah I came here a few weeks ago with my best friend and older brother," she told her, leaving home had definitely been a new experience for the three of them, but they were making the most of it.
"Have you bonded yet?" she inquired, tilting her head. "It can be amazing, but you have to be... cautious."
She shook her head, "No not yet. Lily, my friend is actually meeting hers right now. Its why I'm here alone actually."
"Here," she said, pressing the book into Sapphira's hands. "You very probably need this more than I do," she said. It had proved accurate for at least the 10 years she'd been a part of the program.
Sapphira took the book from her and looked down at its title. "Thanks," she said looking back up at her and setting the book on top of her other book. She'd share the book with Lily later.
They might not like the ending. She'd used many examples of her own dragon bond with Feldrer, and the last page was pretty much a twist that said not to let your bond be blinding.
"So Anya. How long have you been here?" she asked curiously. She knew she'd probably been here a lot longer than she had and was beyond curious about...well everything.
"Since the program started," she said, "Dragons killed my family and destroyed the farm. I was the only survivor, pulled from the wreckage with several broken ribs and a crushed femur." She picked up some light reading material. "I was eight at the time. They sent me up here so I wouldn't become a radical anti-dragon. Figures I'd end up killing my bond."
"Oh really that's long time." she felt her eyes widen as she continued, "Oh wow I couldn't even imagine. I'm...sorry," the sounded so inadequate but she didn't know what else to say. There really wasn't anything else to say. "You killed your bond? How come?"
"Eh, on the day of my eighteenth birthday, during the celebration, he went mad and killed 89 people, burning a small village to the ground. I was deemed responsible for his actions and sent after him to reason. But he gave me no choice." She lifted up her hair to show a scar on the back of her neck, like something had tried to take her head.
"Oh..." she didn't really know what to say to that. Obviously Anya had been through a lot. A lot more than she and Lily had been. If anything Anya was pretty brave to be here around the dragons and apart of the trying to keep the peace. Of course maybe her experiences had just made her more determined for the treaty to work kinda like her Lily and Alex were. "So were you given a new bond or...?"
There was a loud thud outside. The books in the library raddled a bit from the sheer force. There was only one thing that could do that.

"Yup. That's Ro'Daar," she said, feeling the radiant heat of a lava dragon. She flinched slightly. "You may be meeting my new bond in a moment."
She nodded, "Right. That sounds great." She was a mix of excitement nervousness and weariness and she knew those emotions were written clearly on her face. As opposed to Lily who hid her emotions Sapphira showed them clearly.
There seemed to be commotion outside, someone yelling something, and the dragon stomping its foot as retort.
This was not going to be pleasant for anyone, Anya thought, but oh well. She couldn't tell Ro'Daar to buzz off, it was midnight, without expecting the school to be burnt to a crisp.
"We should go outside then, shouldn't we," she meant it as a statement and it sounded like a statement fused with a question.
She followed her to the window because to be honest no matter how nervous she was she wouldn't miss this for the world.
"Svabol geou coi clax ihk jacion ekess pok drekim vi vilklvi?" she called down to the dragon, who glowed like a volcano.
Because Sapphira didn't speak dragon only being here a few weeks she decided to keep her mouth shut and just watch.
"ihk jacion ekess pok telling ve ekess qe japachi!" He yelled back to her. The other man, and half the town confused.
"Visp jacion batobot tsruvonir sva wer treskri tiric ti xurwk coi tikil desta." She smiled slightly, having mastered the language ages ago in a collaborative class with Feldrer.
"si ornla kiarf ysik hefoc ekess filki riliw jacion, si tir ti witani mrith vilklviri," he growled.
She leaned closer to Anya so she could talk quietly to her. "Hey wanna inform the non dragon speaking girl of the conversation?"
"He's been calling them worms for telling him to be quiet at midnight. I told him to tell the man not to yell at the world for it doesn't better the noise or the world."
She let out a small laugh at the man being called a worm. She knew of him and knew he thought of females as less than him so she agreed with the worm statement. "He is a worm."
"jaci ui ti xihuuli wer tairais di vin witanien," He said, still growling, the man yelled about reporting him to the academy. Ro'Daar looked ready to kill him.
"Then don't argue with him and instead spit a bit of lava near him to shut him up," she said, crossing her arms on the windowsill, "That normally does the trick."
People were starting to gather outside fearful that a dragon was attacking, but they saw it was just to men arguing, so they went back inside. No one would care if the town D-bag was dead. Ro'Daar listened, and spat lava next to the man, which sent him rearing to the academy screaming a dragon attacked him.
