I did see it, LOL. I forgot to come back here and post. It was really amazing. I don't think my husband liked it as much as I did. I loved it.
Here is my review: http://bookviewcafe.com/blog/2016/12/...The only thing I would question is whether it really is a time TRAVEL movie. It's loosey and goosey with causation, but not really traveling in time! Although it immediately falls into the paradox of information transfer through time: if you transfer information from the future to the past, where it affects the future, where did the original information come from?
Thoroughly enjoyed it. I could pick out many plot holes and things that didn't quite add up, but to be honest a slow-burner of a film that's not full of nonsensical action and explosions is such a blessed relief, i'm prepared to cut it some slack.
Just caught this. The movie was okay, very plodding but the cgi was great as was the acting. I just came away with the Aliens were a McGuffin. The film was really about would we change things given the chance. They just used the Alien thing was a way of getting there, it could have been a magic talking tree....

I caught a preview screening of this.
Dont miss this one, folks. I only include the film here for the very slightest excuse of a reference of time travel in terms of relativity...but its a feeble excuse...just go see this intelligent movie as a sci fi fan ;)
It keeps it real as in Carl Sagan's Contact, no bombast, the narrative moves slowly but surely, culminating with a knockout crescendo.
8.5/10
Those of you that have seen it:
(view spoiler)[ Bloody hell, what a twist. I didnt know how to mention this film in this group given that time travel is the bloody twist, hence why I played down the time travel as best I can. But man, this is as meaty as time travel movie can ever be! The twist is not unique as a certain JJ Abrams TV series implemented such a twist. But still, this one was still mighty effective.
I have a gripe with the time travel "loop" concept though...so damn cliched and annoying to yet again have a reaction causing an action which is basically nonsensical and paradoxical like the illusion painting I often allude to where a waterfall is flowing downwards...to the top and flowing down again. Beautiful...but nonsensical.
Too many writers employ this and I wish more writers can break out of that "loop" and create more different time travel effect rules such as Looper and Frequency where writers adopt a certain "iteration" of time travel loops. That is more ambitious to keep a plot together but one I respect far more.
Hence why I gave Arrival only 8.5/10 but as a journey movie its a 9/10 experience. (hide spoiler)]
