Young Beginner Writers (closed) discussion

Hello everyone!
I'm new to good reads and super excited to meet y'all. I'm a young writer and I'm looking for pairs of eyes to read and edit my work! I've been writing for about five years and only seriously for the last three.

Is anyone out there interested in reading fantasy-ish writing?

I use GoogleDocs as work space which makes it easy for others to comment.

Winter: thank you! I have two stories in mind. One is not done yet but I'd still love to have people read it. The other is a series a short stories ranging from 1 to 6 pages in length. I'm prouder of the short stories than the novel I'm trying to write haha! If you'd like me to send them to you I can over gmail. Are you okay with that? It is a series of short stories which follow twins and their friend. It starts when they're 9 and will go up into their late teen years.

Sounds like fun. Um, is there any like, super violent scenes? Sorry if that sounds like a weird question but I need to know. ; )

I love the story. There were some parts have a eye sore on the sentence lines. But other than that, from my own eyes, it's really good. It felt so real.

If only my tablet would let me edit.

As far as I know. They're working on Season 4 now!

Does this sound too much like Harry Potter?

A stork drops a baby from the sky, and a family of ten finds it. The baby's eyes change color on her mood; they start out as jade, the green color. There's a postcard, and it explains to the parents about who Jade is.

If Jade shows any signs of magic, they have to give her to a school to learn and control it. (They had best be on the lookout at age twelve, that's the most common age).

The school is new (I don't have a name yet) and it takes long to prepare it. I don't have much history on it yet, but to get there, Jade must find a postcard, because a new one is delivered every year. The postcard shows the picture of where the school might be, and it gives you a riddle.

The riddle tells you how to get there. First, you have to find a specific object and use, and it will give you a hint about where the school is. E.g a bathtub will tell you the school's underwater. Or planting a rose in the garden will tell you the school's underground or something. As soon as you do it, you'll be transported.

So I don't have the plot yet, but Jade's best friend is North. Her other friends, Simon and Amos, are both opposites. But they're a group.

That's all I have so far, pretty much. Does it sound familiar, maybe? Sorry it's so long ;P

Yeah, it does sound like Harry Potter. But I like the idea! You could either write a fan fiction set around Hogwarts or change the plot up a bit. ;)

I like the idea too. I've never read all of the HP books, so I'm not the one to answer that question, but I think with a little tweaking you could totally make it your own.
