He was something else!
I keep coming back to 'Thunderball' though. It's in my top three of the early Bonds; whereas actually I might not even pick Goldfinger at all. GF has a couple fun moments; but by far not my fave of the series. Look at the locations: Switzerland? Kentucky? yawn..and bikinis found only only in the Miami sequence.
Doctor No, FRWL, and Thunderball... I really have to hand it to these as my three go-tos. Thunderball in particular has so much friggin stuff packed into it. Ore-ida! Babes galore. Jet packs. Spearguns.

I've always thought the pacing on Thunderball was a bit "off". Sure the underwater scenes were groundbreaking and they pioneered many techniques film makers would use later but they did bog down what should have been an elegant, streamlined plot, the first act of nuclear terrorism in spy fiction.
But perhaps that's just me.
Yeah. But points in its favor are Fiona Volpe and Emilio Largo. Latter is a good antagonist and the former is by far the most formidable femme fatale of the Bond franchise. Not to mention the death she has, after hounding Bond for so long, she dies by friendly fire when he turns her into the path of a .38 special round that would have taken him out.
