Kaje Harper | 17408 comments We're doing another book drive this month, this time for Zebra Coalition® Youth Center, an Orlando, FL center that is a place to hang out and also offers connection to case management; a food, hygiene and clothing bank; laundry and shower facilities; education and career support; workshops and activities; and a resource library. But which is short of fiction and non-fiction books.

Max, an author (of adult books) friend of mine, is collecting the books, cataloging them, and passing them along. The center serves youth from 13-24, so as usual let's keep the donations YA-appropriate.

I want to emphasize, no member (or moderator) should feel any pressure to donate to these drives. We have very generous people here on the group, and we have authors with books they contribute. Feel free to join in or skip it. There are YA centers all over the country who might benefit from books, so hopefully this is the fourth, but not the last, such book drive for us.

Right now, I am donating a few books, because I'm grateful for the chance to do some good in a world that needs it, and because I can afford to. If you want to donate as well - a book you wrote or another favorite - PM me to ask for Max's address to send them.

If you can't participate in this one, there will be more. Or just hang out here with us. No pressure. If you do send a book, posting the title(s) here will avoid duplications, but it not required (or if you wish to remain anonymous, PM me the title and I'll post it). Thanks to everyone for stopping by this thread.

Kim (lokilady) | 418 comments This is tangential to the main topic, Kaje, but I wasn't sure where else to post it; feel free to shift it to another thread.

For those interested, the Donors Choose organization works directly with public school teachers around the U.S. to fund different classroom projects, including some that are QUILTBAG-related, such as this active project and this one.

Kaje Harper | 17408 comments We can leave it here. Right now, I'm in favor of all the charitable giving people can muster, as an antidote to the negatives.

The Letter Q: Queer Writers' Notes to their Younger Selves

i still hope to add a F&SF or two to the list.

Hi Kaje, I just wanted to say that Uncle Hugo's is such a COOL book store - I went there all the time while growing up and now I just get their newsletter as I live in Wisconsin. Still visit when I am in town

Kaje Harper | 17408 comments I love them - I read mystery too, so between them and Uncle Edgar's I come home loaded. Supporting my independent bookseller, of course :)
