Okay I'm 50 pages in and I have to say the first chapter was the strongest part! I don't feel connected to the other girls and why is the naturalist Queen not the narrator?

I finished the book a bit ago and I was never able to connect to any of the characters and also, the 'twist' at the end was something I assumed from the beginning and was hoping it would be revealed during the climax. But no. Nothing really happened.

The character all seemed the same to me. For 'queens' they were all very compliant and controlled. I would expect at least one of them to be like "Hey! I'm going to be the future ruler so you best suck up to me now!" but none of them own their position it seems?

What did you guys think of the weird love triangle/ cheating thing? I thought that was a bit random, but maybe it'll play a bigger role in the next book? Though I don't know if I'm invested enough to continue....

I completely agree about not connecting with the characters! I'm halfway through and just so bored with it. JUST SCREAMING I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOU AND YOU at every chapter! I feel like this would have been better off as one pov with companion books or just one pov because the characters aren't well developed as single entities.

Oh Ellie I just got to the weird love triangle! Yeah it feels so uncalled for. Especially the way it is written it's just uncomfortable and detached.

SO weird and true. Like. I didn't care about the characters before. And after that thing I was even more put off from them all. Just so awkward

I finished! FINALLY! There were parts that I liked. Little twists at the end. But the romance was horrible. It just wasn't that well written either and lacked so much emotion.

I agree.
Though that twist at the end with the poison. I called that at the very beginning and was hoping it would show itself at the climax at the halfway point.
I think this book read more like a saggy middle book. Too many threads being thrown in and just not weaving together well. Like the magic thing and the bear attack. I didn't really care about any of that. Or the 'cheating' ? love triangle? Thing? I don't even know what to call it.

The world interested me though. I want to see more of it and other characters and more about the powers of everyone. And the offland too. I want to see/ hear more about it.
