Ariana was hiding here, starving and wet

Chains hung from the low ceiling of the ship's lowermost hold. above rows of long wooden benches. Seating for nearly three hundred people packed elbow to elbow and back to chest. It still stank of the sweat and other fluids of its last occupants. A rat scurried around a puddle, over the hiding girl's feet, and disappeared into heavy shadows. Suddenly, a heavier but softer set of footsteps echoed from the ladder up to the crew quarters. Leather boots. A bit uncommon for the average deckhands, who would usually go barefooted.

Ariana was startled by the noise and tried to hide. She twisted her ankle falling.

Javin practically fell himself as he missed a rung and slipped down the ladder. Landing awkwardly at the bottom, he gathered his breath and moved toward the fron bench. He only had a few minutes before someone noticed he was shirking his cabin boy duties. He dug through the numerous pockets in the lining of his jacket and pulled out some string, a bit of candle wax, a bent pewter fork, half a hardtack cracker, the discarded greens of three carrots--- luckily with a bit of the actual vegetable attached--- some potato skins, and a hip flask he'd stolen and filled with clean water and a bit of lime juice. After setting it all down, he darted back up to the crew quarters. He straightened up some of the sailor's personal belongings, and then made his way to the upper deck to find a mop.

Ariana let out a painful cry as she tried to pull back into the shadows. She didn't want to be caught yet. ((Who's Javin?))

The Bosun watched the new cabin boy with vigilant interest. The boy was up to something, he was sure of it. Javin buried himself in his work, thinking he had hid his tracks well. He wasn't so bold as to let his satisfaction betray him with anything so blatant as a smirk, but there was a pep in his step that was nearly as close as he would get to a swagger.

She wasn’t paying attention, her hunger getting the better if her. Wiping her mouth she reached over for an apple

quickly Brooklyn grabs it

Her eyes lifted up to see a newcomer. Startled, she stumbled backwards, water coming off her dress

"sorry! I didnt mean to scare you...im a stowaway plz don't tell anyone u saw me!" Brooke replied

Unuse to talking she said, “don’t worry I won’t. I came aboard this ship because…well i was running away

"oh from who? Are u also a stowaway?"

“An arranged marriage. I believe I should marry someone that I love, not because it was decided for me. And yes, I’m a stowaway

''oh, who is bringing you food? How long have u been here?''

“I’m not sure who he is…I’ve only been here for less than a day

She looked at Brooklyn questioningly, “why are you here?

"I wanted adventure, I didnt wanna marry some rich person''

“Well, it seems we both got what we wanted. I’m just worried about my father

“He’s always worried about me since humans took my mother away. He doesn’t like it when I leave the reef for too long

She shrugs. “I’ve been careful to hide whenever someone comes down here. So I don’t think so

She sat back down staring at her feet

"I guess it gets pretty boring down here"

A while later, Javin crossed the deck with more scraps in his pockets. As he started down the ladder to the hull, the Bo'sun grabbed him by the back of his collar. "Sneaking food scraps?"
Javin nearly blanched. "I've got a compost pile..." He lied.
"A what?" The Bo'sun looked confused.
"Oh, uh... you know. It's basically dirt and rotten vegetables. It makes arable soul for planting."
The Bo'sun pushed past him. "Nah. I'd have smelled it. And where'd you get dirt on the open ocean."
"Okay! Ya got me!" Javin ran to step on front of the other man. "I've been feeding a rat!"
The Bo'sun spotted the two woman crouched over the food on the bench, sharing an apple. "Quite a big rat. Two of 'em. Pretty little she-rats."
Javin looked past the Bo'sun's shoulder. There were two of them? He wished he'd brought more food. One was wearing a wedding dress. The other wore baggy pantaloons and a loose cotton shirt with puffy sleeves, like the sailors aboard often wore in cooler climates when they couldn't go shirtless.
