♞ Pat Gent | 41 comments Two at a time is more than plenty for me. I need to go pick up the A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks by Nicholas Sparks book at the library.

ETA ~ Drove all the way across OKC to get the single copy of this book we have in the entire OKC metro library system. I could have reserved it and had it sent to my local library, but I wanted to be able to start it today instead of tomorrow. That's dedication. LOL

The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant (Fred, the Vampire Accountant, #1) by Drew Hayes The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant by Drew Hayes

~ Review ~
This was a cute little book - a quick and quirky read, mis-titled of course because how could any book with a title this fun be considered uninteresting? It's actually a collection of three novellas, put together in a related anthology, and reading more like a series. Fred is an atypical hero who attends his high school reunion and meets up with one of his old geek friends, predictably a girl, who turns out to work for a branch of the government that hunts down paranormals. Fred and Krystal join forces and all kinds of interesting things start happening. I like quirky humor books, and this one was better than most.

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
~ 344 pages

~ Review ~
I had planned to read this book for the Seasonal Reading Challenge for fall after Sassafrass recommended it to me for another challenge. Life got away from me in the guise of a cardiac surgery and I just ran out of steam before I got to it. But I was so intrigued by the idea, I rolled it over for the winter version of SRC, and I was thrilled when it got drafted so quickly as a book pick here. (Wonder if Sass had something to do with that. Hmmmm......)

Anyway - this book is enchanting! I loved it from cover to cover - from the moment that I was introduced to Amy, to her first meeting of Roger, to the awkward moment where they shared a single bed in a canvas tent, to ... that's it, all the spoilers I want to share. But - I will say that my husband and I are going to San Diego for vacation, and I have a whole new road trip playlist, thanks to Roger's taste and Amy's meticulous note-taking.

Read it if you get a chance. It's lighthearted and fun!

Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton

Review ~
This was a pretty fun combination of swashbuckling adventure and historical fiction. It was really accurate for the time period - the nuances between the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch fighting over ownership of the Caribbean islands. I loved Hunter - he was just enough naughty to be interesting, very smart in terms of logistical planning, and just enough good to be a worth hero. Fun read. Really fun read.

Fields Where They Lay (Junior Bender, #6) by Timothy Hallinan Fields Where They Lay by Timothy Hallinan
Completed ~ 12.6.16
Rating ~ 5

Review ~
This was my first experience with Timothy Hallinan, but it won't be my last. He writes absolutely beautiful prose. The way he writes descriptive narrations is just lyrical and fresh. I loved Junior Bender and the mystery was totally solid. I didn't even figure it out until the last few pages, so I have to say it was really one of the better ones I've read in a while. I plan to go back and pick up the rest of the Junior Bender series books as soon as I can find a way to fit them into my overloaded TBR stack.

WW2 is my favorite historical fiction time period and this book was really fantastic. Three viewpoints, all very different, and merging to a single intersecting point. It's not on the "longest wait list" for nothing. It was really REALLY good.

Review ~
I've always loved the Kay Scarpetta series, but this one I just couldn't get into. I started it over a week ago, and I couldn't focus enough to read more than a few pages at a time. I don't think it was the book - I think it was probably me.... but regardless, I have to rate it how I feel it. And best I can do is a two-star for this one.

Pat, I would suggest doing just that so you can finish this roll. There is nothing in the rules to prevent it. Perhaps you have even read a book between Feb and March (or since) that would have met this roll. :)

Edited: I just realized that this roll was reflective of Rachel's choices for you. She also selected: Eleanor & Park and Silver Bay. I have read Eleanor & Park, which was a good, easy read. Perhaps one of those would work for you.
