OMG! I started this book, thinking it was another one. Ugh...I can't keep anything straight. LOL

It's a good start and it's a "hybrid" since it's written in verse and prose. I might be a tear-jerker.

I lovee how I knew I was doing a buddy read for this and read it but never came here to write my thoughts!

Trisha, this is the book that I accidentally started and (long story short) I am WAY behind on my library books and they have 8 waiting for me, and they only hold them for 10 days. They have already had them on hold a few. Tuesday I'm going to talk to them to see how long of an extension they'll give me. Anyway I thought you were going to start this one (and maybe you did) so I went ahead and read some today.

Page 106

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this book mainly because I haven't really connected with it much. I was confused in the beginning (maybe the first 50 or so pages) because it seemed like she was jumping back and forth between current day and the past when everything went down. I either wasn't concentrating (I was reading with a lot of noise nearby) or it really was confusing. She'd be talking about current day things one paragraph and the past in the next without any warning. So I started paying closer attention and it's coming together more now.

Emily (view spoiler)[Of course, I feel bad for her, but I don't feel an emotional connection to her. So it's hard for me to care too much about what's happening in her current situation with K.T. and the ASG where she is. But I am really curious to see what she is going to do about her pregnancy, assuming I didn't miss something already. I thought her mother's response to finding out she was pregnant was a bit odd. I'm not sure why she doesn't want anyone to know about what happened because it seems to me like talking about it might be cathartic. (hide spoiler)]

Paul(view spoiler)[ I don't have a CLUE what to think about him! I mean, I know he got a gun and opened it up and killed himself, but I sure don't know why yet. I hope that it all comes together for me soon. Again, I have no emotional connection to him either. I can't feel bad for him or sorry for him because I feel nothing and that is something I don't like. I mean he killed himself, he was going to be a father (unless she has/had an abortion), but I still don't feel emotional about any of it. (hide spoiler)]

K.T. (view spoiler)[I think she's a pretty good friend but I don't think she should have made up all that she did about Emily's family and their "death" and where she came from, etc. I wish that Emily would tell her what happened with Paul and that she is (or was) pregnant. (hide spoiler)]

Poetry (view spoiler)[ some I really liked, such as "SEED" and "MOTHER, ONCE REMOVED" but some I didn't know what she was talking about so I didn't enjoy them necessarily.
I hope that it ends better for me than it began and that I can make a better connection. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, no worries. I was gone most of the day (teaching girls scouts to make a fence!) so I'm playing catch up

Paul(view spoiler)[ I think we already know everything here. I think Emily planned to have an abortion and Paul was having none of that (or she already did....and that's why he chose this route). I think he had planned to settle down and become married and raise the baby and Emily didn't. (hide spoiler)]

K.T. (view spoiler)[ strangely, I like her. Emily initially told her to say whatever
and K.T.'s right....the other girls want to know Emily's story and if she's not going to tell it, then K.T. is going to save her so the girls stop digging. I think she's keeping them from actually stumbling on Emily's story (hide spoiler)]

Poetry (view spoiler)[ this is such an interesting depth to the story. I like it so far (hide spoiler)]

The other Emily(view spoiler)[ the famous poet. I haven't read any of her writing but I'm interested. I like that the teacher is helping her and making Emily feel better about writing the poetry (hide spoiler)]

Ever since she kept talking about Emily (the poet) I have been wanting to read her work now lol!
