- the question it relates to
- an explanation as to how the book you chose relates to your answer to the question
------------------------------------------------------------

2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge.
3. The challenge is from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. 4. Books must be at least 175 pages long. They may be any genre (unless specified in a task) and in any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback). In the case where the edition you read does not specify page numbers, we will go with the edition from the Goodread’s search function.
5. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle doesn’t count.
6. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you decide to read.

I'm going to try to complete this without using my parenthesis. This will be fun to gopher!Edit: I really need to make sure I finish this challenge earlier next year. I'm spending time gophering instead of finishing my 2016 challenge!
Also, I think there will be a few that I can fill in as I go and not necessarily plan ahead. Then, if they aren't filled by the second half of the year I'll gopher them.
Kristie wrote: "I'm going to try to complete this without using my parenthesis. This will be fun to gopher!Edit: I really need to make sure I finish this challenge earlier next year. I'm spending time gophering ..."
Sounds like a good plan, Kristie. I also neglected my 2016 challenge today, and gophered when I could have finished another book for my geo-cache challenge. But who can resist a chance to gopher?
Thanks, Lori. I agree. I always enjoy the gophering process. I probably spend way to much time on it, but I'm ok with that. lol
Kristie wrote: "I'm going to try to complete this without using my parenthesis. This will be fun to gopher!"I don't understand what this means, so I'm going to ask about the parenthesis.
Your person to meet could be anyone. A lot of people picked dead people - I even chose a fictional character, Jean-Luc Pickard of the Enterprise :)
jaxnsmom wrote: "Kristie wrote: "I'm going to try to complete this without using my parenthesis. This will be fun to gopher!"I don't understand what this means, so I'm going to ask about the parenthesis."
Some of my answers have parenthesis, for example for #2 my response was "to watch: American Football, to play: Volleyball
(I also love to watch gymnastics and ice skating, particularly during the Olympics.)," so I will try to find a book with American football or volleyball, but not gymnastics or ice-skating because those are in parenthesis. Hope that makes more sense.
jaxnsmom wrote: "Your person to meet could be anyone. A lot of people picked dead people - I even chose a fictional character, Jean-Luc Pickard of the Enterprise :)"I saw that afterwards, but had already put my answer in, so I figured I'd keep it. Alan Rickman probably would have been a good one though!
Crap... I just spent a full hour gophering books and updating my thinking spot. I was really excited about some of the books I found. Then, I clicked to a different page on accident and lost the whole edit. ugh!
Peggy wrote: "Oh no!"So mad! I had some really good ideas and I didn't put them in my other document. I just updated directly into the thread. It's my own fault, but so frustrating! Now I need to try to remember at least some of them.
I feel for you :( Happened to me too but with only two books added. After that I made sure I saved the post after every few books. I hope you will remember most of them!
I've added a few, but I'll have to gopher again to get most of them. Some I pulled off lists and found that I had them on my TBR or were free Kindles I had purchased and forgotten about, so I don't remember them. I hadn't saved in the whole hour, so I lost a bunch. The worst part is that I thought about it a few times, but still didn't save. I certainly learned my lesson!
Kristie wrote: "jaxnsmom wrote: "Kristie wrote: "I'm going to try to complete this without using my parenthesis. This will be fun to gopher!"I don't understand what this means, so I'm going to ask about the pare..."
Gotcha. I couldn't figure out where the parentheses came from. Looking at your #2 makes it perfectly clear :)
I like your thinking space for your list of books. I have mine all down on paper now, except for one question. Yeah, wait until you start searching for "shower" books. :0)
I REALLY like the way you've set up the survey, your answers, the reading prompt, and your book selection. Can I borrow your system?
I think that's about all the gophering I'm going to do for a while. I have a lot to start with and will probably gopher as I go anyway. I really need to get back to completing my 2016 challenge! Almost there.
I finished my first book for the challenge!Part 1: 1/12
The Woman in Cabin 10
3. What colour are your eyes?
My Answer: hazel (mostly blue with some green)
* Read a book where the colour of your eyes is the main colour of the cover, or the word is in the title.
I decided to go with a mostly blue cover, since my eyes are mostly blue. The book cover of this book is different shades of blue, as are my eyes. I also like that the cabin window is a circle on the cover which reminds me of an eye.
Part 1: 2/129. What is your relationship status?
My Answer: Married
* Read a book with that word in the title, or where the main character or author shares that status. Or…. Get creative. What kind of book will be representative?
I read The Girl Who Drank the Moon
I read this because the author is also married with children, which she states on her GR page. Kelly Barnhill
Part 1: 3/1214. What is something you use daily?
My Answer: My phone.
* Read a book with that word in the title. Or, is on the cover. Or…. Get creative. What kind of book will represent that item?
Fat Fridays
I had intended to use this book somewhere else, but it seemed to fit here so well that I switched it. The women in this book spend a lot of time on the phone. Making calls, waiting for calls, receiving calls, talking on the phone...enough so that I commented on it while reading. So, I decided to switch it to my phone task.
Part 1: 4/1224. Name a place you’d like to visit.
My Answer: Italy and Australia are both on my bucket list. (I also have specific places on there - the Grand Canyon & Niagra Falls...)
* Read a book set in that location.
Truly Madly Guilty
This book is set in Sydney, Australia. The author was also born there and currently lives there.
I enjoyed it, Janice. I know a lot of people were frustrated by the BBQ happening so late in the story, but I enjoyed the relationships and character growth. The BBQ is important, but only as an event and how it affects everyone. If you go into it looking for a big mystery, you will be disappointed. I think the blurb does the book an injustice by focusing on that, even though the book tries to build it up too. If you put the BBQ aside while reading, I think you enjoy it more. Just my two cents. :) I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
Is the BBQ similar to Trivia Night in Big Little Lies? You know at the beginning that something happens at Trivia Night which occurs at the end of the book.
Pretty much. You have some clues and they make it sound really important. It doesn't occur until about 2/3 through in this one, then you have the fall-out from the incident.
Part 1: 5/1244. Do you prefer shoes or barefeet?
My Answer: bare feet
* Read a book where your selection is on the cover or in the title, or get creative and find a book that represents your choice.
Every Body Yoga: Let Go of Fear. Get On the Mat. Love Your Body. This book has barefoot on the cover.
Part 1: 6/1217. What is your country of birth?
My Answer: USA
* Read a book set in that country, or written by an author that was also born in that country.
The Archived by Victoria SchwabVictoria Schwab was born in California in the USA.
Part 1: 7/1228. Do you prefer Classic or Contemporary?
My Answer: contemporary
* If Contemporary, read a book published in 2000 – 2017.
The Couple Next DoorThe Couple Next Door was first published in 2016.
Part 1: 8/1239. What is your birthstone using the US 2016 listing:
My Answer: diamond
* Read a book with that gemstone on the cover, in the title, or the colour of that gemstone is the colour of the cover.
Your Cholesterol Matters: What Your Numbers Mean and How You Can Improve Them Your Cholesterol Matters has a mostly white cover, which is the color of diamonds.
