Hi Runners 5!

As the title suggests, this is for introducing yourself.

I'm Lulu, a Runner 5 from London who works at Six to Start! My main role is that of support elf, and I'll be leading the book club.

Outside of zombie-related interests, I enjoy experimental cooking, reading and writing sci-fi and only finding the motivation to run when it is a dark and wet outside.

Let's get started!

Hello! I'm Adrian, CEO at Six to Start - I helped with planning the outline and artwork for the book!

Joe (hwoodjoe) | 1 comments Hey! Joe here. I've been using Zombies Run since 2012. Looking forward to getting a real opportunity to sit down and read the book!

T.G. (lgem) | 1 comments I'm Lisa, in Vancouver Canada. I've been using the app since Season 1 and I just received my book yesterday.

Which was great since today's my birthday :-)

James Kulikowski | 1 comments Hello, James in Washington DC been running with Zombies Run! I came across the app back in June. Got my book a few weeks ago :)

message 6: by Gwen (new)

Gwen Pelletier | 1 comments Hello, Gwen from Sacramento, California here! I've been using Zombies, Run! since backing it on Kickstarter. I got my book a few weeks ago and look forward to reading it with the club. Fan of horror, science fiction, satire, cyberpunk, etc. And I may have a half sleeve tattoo related to Slaughterhouse Five...

message 7: by Ben (new)

Ben Langleben | 3 comments Ben from London here. Arrived in Abel in June 2012. Finally got round to joining the VR (at the London meet up) this year and regret not signing up to earlier ones. Mission: drop subtle hints. Status: successful. The ministry publication was received on my birthday.

Carol (clbfreeman) | 15 comments Hello, I'm Carol from Iowa, USA. I started with the 5K app earlier this year after trying several other training apps unsussessfully. This summer, I completed the 5K app and ran my first ever 5K in a Bucket List race here in Iowa! I promptly started the full app and am now in Season 2. I loved the VR! I've never been a runner and always said I'd only run if being chased by an ax murderer...I guess I will run from Zombies too! :) I look forward to reading the book and discussing it with fellow Runner 5s!

message 9: by Ciaran (new)

Ciaran | 1 comments Hihi! I'm Zalia from Yorkshire in the UK! I've been into ZR since 2013, have written a lot of fanfiction over that time, and been to a few meetups in that time.

I'm a writer and enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, video games and Roleplay games.

message 10: by Lorena (new)

Lorena Courtney | 1 comments Hi, I'm Lauri from Iowa. I have always been a fan of horror movies (zombies being my fave) and while looking for a motivational app for walking, found zombies run. Ive never been a runner but now, after 3 seasons of ZR and at 60 years old, am running everywhere I go like a 6 year old !! Love the ongoing story, the virtual races and now am very much enjoying the book ! Thank you. In the midst of an apocalypse, you have given me a new life!

message 11: by Jo (new)

Jo (straylight) Howdy, I'm Jo from Indiana, USA. I'm a librarian by day, horror fan by night, and have been using Zombies Run as a way to motivate myself to get out and move more.

I love to read all sorts of books, with sci-fi, fantasy, cyberpunk and horror being my favorite genres. I also love to travel, spend time outdoors, play board & card games (including tabletop RPGs), and occasionally even do some crochet (if I can hold still long enough.)

Very much looking forward to reading this book...

Lila | 1 comments Hey there! I'm Lila. I'm from the States, but I'm currently studying at uni in the UK. I started Zombies, Run! a little over a year ago, and fell in love instantly. Being Runner Five has had such a positive impact on my life.

As for books, I mostly like dystopias, detective novels, and sci-fi. I also have a passion for video games, hiking, and I recently got into D&D. I can't wait to read the book with all of you! :)

message 13: by Graham (new)

Graham Stevens (grambo27) | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Graham and I've been Runner 5 since October 2013 based out of Ottawa, ON, Canada. Zombies, Run! is easily my favourite app on my phone. I love the storylines and have participated in all of the virtual races thus far. Can't wait to get into the book now!

message 14: by Martha (new)

Martha Foster (martha_foster) | 1 comments Hi Runners 5! I'm Martha from Idaho. I've been using the app for just over a year and love it! I'm looking forward to reading this book, and looking it over, I love the Surviver's Handbook style of it. I'll definitely be getting into this Friday, after Thanksgiving.

I love reading all kinds of books, but especially non-fiction - science, history, biographies. Looking forward to the discussions here!

message 15: by Cory (new)

Cory Williams | 1 comments I'm Cory from Mississippi. I love the story in Zombies Run, and recently started Season 2. Looking forward to reading the ministry publication with y'all.

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Staples | 1 comments Hiya all. I'm Michelle, from Maine. I discovered Zombies, Run in June(ish) of this year. I'm not a runner, in spite of the R5 tag.....I'm actually Walker 5. My pre-ZR zombie experience was limited to PVZ.

I love to read, though as a 49 year old college student, this semester has seen most of my reading limited to text books and school assignments....but I take time to read this book every day. Hmmm, maybe I should do that with my school books too.

message 17: by Eva Therese (new)

Eva Therese (eva-therese) | 4 comments I'm Eva from Copenhagen, Denmark. I'm pretty new to ZR as I'm only on the second season (plus the 5K and the latest virtual race). But I'm spoiler resistant, so don't worry about me.

When not running from zombies, I'm a librarian, with a special love for fantasy books. I like knitting and crocheting, gaming, my cats and occasional writing my own fiction. Basically, I'm a huge ol' nerd and ZR gets me out the door and moving. Thank you ZR!

message 18: by Karina (new)

Karina Fletcher | 3 comments Hi, I'm Karina from Cheshire, England. I love everything about Zombies run, and all the peripheral activity around the app itself. What a fab beast this is growing into, it fits me like a glove! I'm currently in season 3 and have got my signed book, but have not read it read. I am looking forwards to reading it in such esteemed company! :-)

message 19: by Cari (last edited Nov 27, 2016 02:05PM) (new)

Cari | 4 comments Hi all! I'm Cari from Southern Maryland - I've been using Zombies Run for a long time, but I can't remember exactly when I started. At first I'd use it on the elliptical. Then I did the 5k plan on the elliptical when it was first released. Then I lost 150 pounds (still working to lose some more) and, somewhere in there, I started running so I've done the 5k plan while running as well as normal missions. I started a re-listen to the regular seasons right before season 5 was released and then I got injured, so I've only made it back to season 3! But I'm spoiler proof, so it's all good.

I'm a full time college student at the moment. I'll finish my AA in Exercise and Sport Science in May 2017 and then I'll be pursuing a BS in Gerontology and Aging Services and a BS in Health Management Services. I'll finish those in May 2019. (Seems forever away.) My initial education goal was "to help older people move better" but, due to experiences between now and when I started, this has expanded into "making the living (and dying) experience better for older people." I don't quite know where this will take me, but I've got a few years to figure it out!

As you can all imagine, I'm sure, being a full time student doesn't leave me with much time to read for fun, so I will try my best to keep up with the book club. :D

Aside from running and schooling, I love yoga and pilates, I enjoy cooking but wish it didn't take so much time, I'm an avid reader when I have time to be, I take voice lessons and enjoy singing both alone with with a choir, I'm a dedicated daughter which involves a lot of tech support duties, and 2016 has been a pretty rotten year for me so I'm still trying to find my happiness again.

message 20: by Regina (new)

Regina (rcross126) | 1 comments Ooh, hey, I get to comment right after Cari, who invited me to the group! I was kind of intrigued by the app when she started talking about it on facebook, but then I read an interview with Naomi Alderman, and her insistence on making fitness and self-improvement the goals (as opposed to arbitrary times, weights, etc.) actually helped get me off the couch again post-baby. I've been an on-again/off-again runner for a couple of years. At the beginning of this year, I got more serious (by which I mean actually getting some good running shoes, workout-reserved clothing, and weather resistant tech). I love it.

I will, I think, turn 40 while we read this book or shortly thereafter (Jan 26 - I haven't counted the sections yet). I live in rural Missouri and I combine my runs with hunting Pokemon, because hey, it's FUN. I've been thru the 5k app a time and a half, and I'm solidly in season 1 (my base is pitiful, but growing). My run this morning got derailed because I was watching my Chiefs beat the Broncos in OT and stayed up waaaay too late to want to roll out of bed at 0445 for roadwork. I have a husband and a 3 year old, and we had zombie apocalypse plans figured out long before Max Brooks ever published the Zombie Survival Guide.

I originally bought this on Kindle, but went back for a paper copy because I wanted to write in it...

message 21: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas | 1 comments Hello! I'm Nick from Los Angeles, CA. I work in Social Media Marketing for a non-profit organization. I'm originally from Michigan, USA, but moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago.

I first found Zombies Run back in spring of 2015... used the main App for about a month, and then life got in the way, and I didn't keep up with my running. In February 2016, I decided I was going to get serious about incorporating running into my regular fitness routine. I started with the Zombies Run 5K Training App, ran my first 5K in April, my first 10K in July and my first Half Marathon in November 2016. I'm currently at the beginning of Season 3 of the main Zombies Run app.

Outside of running, my interests include spirituality & philosophy, comic books & superhero movies, politics, gadgets & tech.

message 22: by Malia (new)

Malia (mamamalia) | 1 comments Hello! Lia from Redmond, WA, US, and I'm currently banned from running by my physical therapist as I do work on my bum right knee, so I'm hoping to stay connected with my active self (and my love of zombies) by partaking in this. It's also my first goodreads book club, so hi! /waves

message 23: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Clarke (eruvadhril) | 3 comments I'm Danielle from Perth, Western Australia and I've been playing Zombies, Run! since July 2012. I've been voraciously consuming everything Six to Start has published since then ^_^ I'm currently spending the inter-season break cackling evilly at my boyfriend's first playthrough of the app and the resultant feels.

message 24: by Todd (new)

Todd Edson | 2 comments Hello! I'm Todd AKA Geoffrey currently from the hinterlands of Wisconsin, USA. I started enjoying fitness with S2S with "The Walk" back around 2012 when I lived in Minneapolis, MN but for "reasons" never got into the ZR! app until picking it up again in earnest January 2016 with the trainer app and then the ZR! main app. I'm currently running season 4 and have run 1000+ km over 160+ hours using the app.
I'm an anthropologist, historian, published artist, explorer, and interface and database analyst at a non-profit hospital among other things. I'm well traveled and love to cook, read, write, run, but not arithmetic. I can say it makes for an interesting resume and stories to tell over drinks.
I'm interested in the zombie/apocalypse genre and have likely read it, played it, seen it, talked about it, blah blah blah. It's part of my interest in how people deal with situations of crisis. Although I haven't personally been in a zombie/apocalypse, I've been through quite a few hair raising experiences and have learned a bit about how to survive in life threatening situations.

message 25: by Denali (new)

Denali (yarnbard) | 10 comments Hello! I'm Denali from the Pacific Northwest, though I'm currently living in Iowa while I'm working on completing my master's in Library and Information Science. I've owned the Zombies Run app since before the free version existed, though I only started using it in the past year. Unfortunately, grad school has killed most of my free time, and I haven't gone on a run since August, so I'm hoping the book will help me find ways to keep fit and live well on a grad student's time budget!

message 26: by Lori (new)

Lori Roberts | 1 comments Hi. I am Lori and just joined. I have been using ZR since August of this year. I know I am late to join but I love ZR and it has really gotten me running.

message 27: by Irma (new)

Irma (irmavet) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Irma from Italy. I love Zombie run app and now I'm following the 5k program as I stopped running for few months... I love the book and I' m reading it right now as it was a Christmas present :)
Happy new year to all and happy running!
Irma

Hypolimnas Bolina | 2 comments Hi I'm Runner 5. I was a biology student prior to the current situation and am new to Abel township.

I come with two goats, Kirsty and Tuba who I also hope will be welcomed here. I would advise against eating them as they are an excellent source of protein, vitamins and calcium on a daily basis, off-setting any short term gain from their meat products. Also I will kill you if you try. I have however put an advert on ROFFLENET for anyone with a convienient Billy Goat to consider a breeding program.

message 29: by James (new)

James Bore (coffeefueled) | 1 comments Hi, I'm a Runner 5 from Surrey in the UK. I've been trying to use ZR since it came out, and have made several aborted attempts up until October last year - and this time it seems to have worked.

Before the whole apocalypse thing happened I used to work in computer security, but with some useful hobbies including archery, butchery, beekeeping, fencing and brewing - wine's running at a bit of a premium these days.

Hi Lauri! It is great to see a fellow Iowa Runner 5!

message 31: by Denali (new)

Denali (yarnbard) | 10 comments Carol and Lauri, I'm amazed that there are three of us in Iowa in this group! Well, I'm in Iowa for some of the year, while I'm in grad school, then in Washington for the remainder of the time. This is my first Iowa winter!

message 32: by Carol (new)

Carol (clbfreeman) | 15 comments Denali! Sorry I somehow missed you are in a Iowa too! Welcome! So far this has been an unusual winter. Warmer and less snow. :) still plenty of time left for that to change. I guess Iowa must be a hotbed of zombie activity to have us all here! I hope you are enjoying Iowa so far!

message 33: by Elise (new)

Elise (elisebeth) Hello! Elise here! Runner 5 that has just arrived in Abel from Sydney, Australia! I have a huge love for zombies so knew this would be the app for me and I'm already enjoying every thing it has to offer! (signed up for the Spring Virtual Race and all!!)

Nice to see another Sac area person here!

Hey everyone, I'm Ashley. I live outside of Sac as well and have been a Runner 5 since their Kickstarter back in the day. Different health and laziness issues have caused me to be an off and on runner though, so I've only started season 3.

Done all the races though and like to get my hands on anything ZR. Happy to find this group.

Carol (clbfreeman) | 15 comments Hello Ashley! Hope you enjoy the book! It was a fun read and there lots of good discussions in this thread.
