You've read the first three and plan on joining? I'll start closer to 12/1 if so. After a lot of participation on the first two it was just Emma and I on book 3 and she had a huge head start on me so this one I figured I'd just do the same.

I kind of lost steam on this series. I'm not sure if I will keep reading it because I quite liked the first two.

I don't think I can start this til at least the 1st December.

I'm probably going to start a few days early so I can meet all of my Dec commitments.

I'm going to start both The Widow's House and Blood of Innocents tomorrow after finishing Return of the Crimson Guard much faster than I thought I would. Second half was simply too good to put down. Doing both group reads at once should keep me from getting too far ahead of the group on either.

Great Prologue. It fills in a lot of history and makes you wonder when certain things will come to fruition.

Doubt I'll be able to get either of these started this side of the weekend...got 3 to get finished!

I had to push the envelope because my early December is the same way.

Up to page 303. The last 40 pages have been among the best if not the best of the series.

I thought Inys was a goner for sure. I was so happy when he flew into view of the ship and I love Marcus's dry remark of:

“Well, God smiled,” Marcus said sourly. “Where in hell are we supposed to put him.”

Inys dry remarks have been so awesome.

“Yes, yes,” the dragon said, reaching out its foreclaw and pinching at the air as if demonstrating something. “You deafen them first. A little poke in each ear, and pack them with ashes. They heal enough to fight within a month, and the scars keep the spiders clear.”

“Couldn’t you just pour wax in there?” Cithrin asked.

The dragon shook its head. It was a weirdly familiar gesture seen on something so large. “Such plugs can fall out in the middle of a battle. Digging out the ears means there are no errors. It is a much better strategy.”

“But after the war, they’re still deafened for life.”

“After the war, they have served their purpose,” Inys said, unfolding his wings casually.

He has been a treat. I was almost sad Cithrin got away. I thought her and Geder would have been really entertaining at this point.

Geder: Do you not love me now?
Cithrin: Yes, of course.
Baraship: Head shake no she's lying.

Just read the prologue and already excited! Only read the previous one a few short weeks ago so HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE DRAGON?!! (IM assuming this is not a spoiler as anyone on this thread will have read the previous book)

The prologue was AWESOME. I was couldn't wait for you to get there. Inys is a great addition.

LOVED Marcus' chapter at 20%! Even though I'd been waiting for Inys to appear, I (view spoiler)[was shocked by his appearance and I love the fact he was drunk!<\spoiler> (hide spoiler)]

That was really funny.

This is the best one so far- or at least the best in the first third of the books...starting to get an idea of what the final instalment will look like too now that we have more information..

I do but how about doing the next series starting books in the middle of the month and starting book one 3/15? I understand if you don't want to wait but I've already committed to a lot in Jan/Feb.

No I can wait, that's fine.. I'm learning its better not to commit to too many buddy reads at the start of the month....it gets too much with all the books of the month starting on the same day!

Inys frying the priests and nearly everybody around them and then casually eating the charred remains was so in character. His arrogance and insouciance towards humans/slaves is a riot.

Will Geder betray the priests at the end? For the spiders to be wiped out will Kit be destroyed? Clara, can she sacrifice Vicarian? Will Inys rain down some destruction? (hide spoiler)]

Actually felt sorry for Geder in his last chapter when he whispers in the baby's soft head...

Big vindication for Cithrin when Komme backs her..

I'm finished. 4 down, one to go! Will be so sad when it's over!

Which was what made me wonder if he would find redemption in the last.
