Yes. It was recommended so hoping it will be good. I usually struggle with YA books.

I've scheduled it in. I hope it's good too. I read the warrior heir years ago and though it was just okay. Customers I've talked to seemed to like this series a lot better.

Haha I know. I was going to read it with Scott in December. But I just can't fit it in next month. Overcommitted. Scott kindly agreed to change months. Glad there will be a few of us to read the book.

The great thing about this group is the way it's making me read books I've had on my shelves for ages! I'll read this if I can get The Lions of Al-Rassan finished in time.

I'll be a couple of days late to this one as have to finish The Lions of Al-Rassan first as well.
So true Gelisvb. The group definitely helps get read some of the books I've been meaning to read for ages.

I'm in the same boat as Angela - is there an official finishing date for this? There's no way I'm going to get Lions of Al-Rassan finished in time to start this on 1st.
It's the 15th, but we're not strict about it, so Shaitarn we can just start it a couple of days after everyone else.
I know there are a few in the group that have two books starting on the 1st as well, so I imagine some of them will have a delayed start on this book as well.

I'll be starting 1 or 2 days late also. Got little late with Shadows of Self and am starting Lions of Al-Rassan today only. Will probably finish it only on the 2nd or 3rd of March.
Since everybody else is starting late I'm going to follow suit. I've bitten off more than I can chew and to keep up with different reads I'm doing 30 pages per book per day and it's a bit distracting. Getting a lot further in some of these other books before starting this will help me out.

Gelisvb of course you can start on the 1st. :) The rest of us won't be far behind and it means we can read your comments as we get to those sections of the book. It just looks like a few of us are reading Lions as well. I hope to start this weekend.
I will start tomorrow, but it might be a slow start as I have some last minute errands to attend to.
Elizabeth wrote: "I'll be stalking the thread, this used to be one of my favorites years ago."Me too.
I started it today and I got to 11%. So far I am struggling with it. Not much holding my attention or provoking my curiosity. I will continue tomorrow. Hopefully my first impression will change.
I'd say I'm at about the same place - maybe a little before. So far it has a lot of elements I like, but I agree, nothing earth-shattering yet. I can say all the praise I've heard for it more than anything else has me excited to keep going. It has a lot of potential.
I'm reading the spanish version of this book, but i think i will switch to English. The translation uses a language too juvenile. Or is the language used by the author?
I read The Demon King less than a year ago. I will be looking this thread closely and join the group read when we start with The Exiled Queen!
I got my hands on the english version and so far I'm not impressed. The style of writing is similar to the Falling Kingdoms and I'm not a fan of that serie. But since I'm only at second chapter, it's still early to form an opinion.
I felt this book was probably the weakest one in the series, but I really liked it. The think the series gets better as it progresses.

I agree – a lot of things are very reminiscent of Falling Kingdoms. Good comparison. I also had a ton of issues with that one, although simplistic writing was among the least of them. So far, although nothing has totally grabbed me yet, I haven't come across any deal breakers.

Did anybody else have an issue with (through chapter 2) (view spoiler) other than that minor issue, I'm entertained so far.
Niki Hawkes wrote: "Did anybody else have an issue with (through chapter 2) [spoilers removed] other than that minor issue, I'm entertained so far."Good point. I didn't think of that when I read the book. Those are the kind of things that I usually breeze on by without noticing but my husband picks up on those things in books a lot. He found a few similar things in A Promise of Blood when we read it a couple of weeks ago. This is why I like buddy reads and book discussions, because different people always find different things to point out about a book.
Niki Hawkes wrote: "Did anybody else have an issue with (through chapter 2) [spoilers removed] other than that minor issue, I'm entertained so far.I agree with you Niki. It was convenient for the author to do that, but completelly unrealistic. (view spoiler)
Good theory Miche! (view spoiler)
Tammie, I noticed those things in direct proportion to how immersed in a book I am. So far, while okay this one hasn't grabbed me yet which leaves my mind free to ponder the little stuff. If I'm really enjoying it I actively ignore stuff like that ha ha.

I am at 26% and I am thinking of abandoning this book. So far I can't stand the main caracthers and there isn't even a hint of a plot development that grabbed my attention. The world building is interesting, but the writting and the caracthers are dragging this down for me. I am not sure I want to invest time in another series like that at this moment.I will go read Gardens of the Moon for a bit. I might come back to this one when I need something fluffy.
Niki Hawkes wrote: "Tammie, I noticed those things in direct proportion to how immersed in a book I am. So far, while okay this one hasn't grabbed me yet which leaves my mind fre..."That makes sense. I'll have to try and notice if I do the same thing when I'm not that into a book.
I'm only 12% in and so far I like HanBut wasn't he supposed to bve an ex street lor? But he is sixteen. Isn't a little young to be an ex street lord? When I think of a street lord I tink of Kaz or Locke, not Luke skywalker.
Unfortunately life has gotten busy and I have to back burner something and it's going to be this book for now. Sorry everyone.
I am at chapter 4 now. I find it entertaining but shallow. It's a fun read if you don't pay to much attention to the blunders.(view spoiler)
Overall, i don't find it bad. I'm gonna give it a try and see how it goes on. It has some promise of a developing plot and Han and Dancer are interesting.
I'ma a little further in the book. I agree about the shallowness. It's not bad, but I feel to old for this. I am not going to become a fan of Raisa anytime soon and I sort of like Han. Dancerhas some backbone and I hope that he won't be killed off soon(or better, ever)
I'm half way through it by now and I have to admit that in the beginning I was also thinking I'm to old for this. but surprisingly it picked up somewhere in between and I really enjoy it now. Still feeling old (Maybe because of so many 15-16 year olds in there:)) But it's entertaining. Easy read that doesn't require much thinking. I just sort of wait and see what comes next.
