I am going to see how much I love Beyond Redemption first..I don't normally like to read books in a series back to back although I have come close to making exceptions, particularly recently..

Andy | 34 comments I saw a post from the author saying that he screwed something up and the print version actually got released ahead of schedule. It's already available! The ebook version (which I pre-ordered) still doesn't come out until the 15th, so I'm waiting for that.

I'm Probably going to start this on the 2nd when release. It's just too big of a temptation.

I was planning to squeeze a book between Beyond Redemption and The Mirror's Truth (depending on how long it takes me to read the former), but yeah... if my TMT pre-order shows up in my kindle on the 2nd I might just dive right in.

Sweet. Other than Malazan Beyond Redemption was the best book I read this year.

Seán | 602 comments Damn. I'd love to hop in on this, but the 2nd will be too close. I should finish BR by then, but I think Final Fantasy XV is going to take up most of my time in the following weeks.

Just hop on after you're done and it will still be fresh in our minds for discussion.

Andy | 34 comments Finished BR today, so if TMT is made available tomorrow I'll be jumping straight in.

Andy | 34 comments The book was delivered to my kindle shortly after midnight last night. I'm a few chapters in and loving it so far. It goes right into some heavy action and features great new characters along with the familiar ones. Also, there's a map!

Quinn | 460 comments I will read the book as soon as I am finish with what I am reading right now

I'm a quarter of the way through. I like that it's not a carbon copy of book one which must have been tempting. I also like that he sprinkles in things to remember from book one without being us over the head with them like we've stupid. As an example:

“What remains of Neidrig,” said Wichtig. “They’ve got this amazing cat god. You folks should really—”

I had forgotten about the cat cult and roared.

Tracey the Lizard Queen | 117 comments I'm about 85% through, Wichtig has me stitches!

Witchtig has been the best character in this book. I thought the dopels stole the show in book one.

Tracey the Lizard Queen | 117 comments Agreed. For some reason I always picture him as Nickolaj Coster-Waldau (spelling?). With his smug grin.

Tracey the Lizard Queen | 117 comments Bedeckt has got to be Mickey Rourke! Not sure about Stehlen.

Totally!!! That's who I've pictured as Wichtig from the beginning.

I actually felt really sad for Stehlan in the last chapter where they are in the grasslands.

For some reason I'm picturing Tom Berenger (an older version of the scarred-up Platoon-era Tom Berenger) as Bedeckt.

Andy | 34 comments Finished this book today. Not much I can say beyond "wow". I hope I can write a review that does it justice.

Gavin | 185 comments I'm months late for the buddy read (curse this series lack of audios!) but have to say I really loved this second instalment of the series. I thought it was an improvement on the first book.

The big plus for me was return of all my favourite characters from the first book combined with the addition of a few new characters that I really liked. Well, "liked" is a maybe an exaggeration considering the nature of the crazy characters in this world, but I was definitely intrigued and fascinated by them.

Tracey the Lizard Queen wrote: "Agreed. For some reason I always picture him as Nickolaj Coster-Waldau (spelling?). With his smug grin."

I love the dream casting, Tracey. That is exactly how I pictured both Bedeckt and Wichtig!

Scott wrote: "I actually felt really sad for Stehlan in the last chapter where they are in the grasslands."

One of the things I love most about the Manifest Delusions series is Fletcher's ability to inspire sympathy in me for even his most despicable characters. That and the humor is what stops these books from ever becoming too bleak.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. After Malazan and Stormlight this is my third favorite series which is saying something to put it up in that realm.

High praise for sure. I do not rate the Manifest Delusions series quite as highly as that but they are still easy 5 star reads for me.

Has anyone read Fletcher's Ghosts of Tomorrow series? How does it compare with this series? I'm thinking of buying it but am a little wary as the premise sounds a lot less exciting than the premise of this series.

I read it and loved it. It is more of a dystopian futuristic sci-fi book but has some of the mind fuck elements of MD. There's a few common themes between the two series and you could say there's a virtual reality aspect in GOT that "mirrors" MD, pun intended.
