Hello everyone. Please come here to say hello!

message 2: by Ruth (last edited Nov 24, 2016 09:06AM) (new)

Ruth Hello Jenny, thanks so much for starting this group - what a brilliant idea. Have you got a link to the complete list anywhere?

message 3: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
You're quite welcome, and no I don't, but all except the comedy folder have a link to the list by genera that's here on Goodreads. I am planning to give each book it's own thread as well. I am working on Comedy, which is why I deleted the list for it,

message 4: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs Hi Jenny. Thanks for inviting me to this group. It looks interesting. Great idea.

Yea, I figured that group reads would be a good way to get through the list! Fell free to nominate one if you have not yet!

message 8: by Wend (new)

Wend (wends) | 99 comments Hi, great idea. Can you bookshelf the list so it can identify from our own shelves if we have read? Looking forward to the journey, although not sure if I'll make it before.... Anyway looking forward to great reads and comments from everyone. I'm not a natural classic reader and some may be a bit too expensive for Kindle UK, but let's do it.

If you look on the lists here on goodreads, it will show next to it if you have shelved it as anything, Wend

message 10: by Janine (new)

Janine | 2 comments Hello! Excited to join the group -- although 1000 books does feel very daunting!

Wend (wends) | 99 comments Jenny wrote: "If you look on the lists here on goodreads, it will show next to it if you have shelved it as anything, Wend"Thanks Jenny. Really liking you adding each book to the genres, although must be a lot of work getting through all 1000.

Wend, you're welcome and yes it is a lot of work, As you can see, I am about halfway through the second genera I am working on. It also does not help that the list here on goo dreads is wrong sometimes. Harry Potter was under Love and should have been Sci Fi

Debra Diggs Janine wrote: "Hello! Excited to join the group -- although 1000 books does feel very daunting!"

Welcome to the group Janine -- book by book, we will get through it. One thing is for sure, if we never start we will never finish.

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Janine- Sorry, I missed your comment! Welcome to the group and some of the "books" are short stories, or shorter novels.

message 15: by iasa (new)

iasa Hi everyone, I'm iasa. Well looks like my reading is taken care of for the next 10 years!

message 16: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Welcome Iasa! And yes, I think we all do haha!!

message 17: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 5 comments Yay!! I didn't realize the group was new! So does that mean I'm not behind? : ) I have always been a reader, but adult life stuff sometimes gets in the way. For the last year I have been challenging myself to read more, and I'm excited about this group as further incentive.

message 18: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Sharon, yes we just started, December is our first group read month, the poll opens at 9 tonight.

Thank you for all your work, Jenny. It makes it easier to find books, and thank you for putting books in the proper categories.

message 20: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
You're quite welcome Rosemarie, and I hope everything is right. I am just going by the goodreads lists right now, but I had to look up Harry Potter cause I knew it should not go in Love at all... and nope, it is, of course, Sci Fi and Fantasy! If y'all notice anything wrong, please let me know and I will fix it!

Just realized that I never said hello to the group. Hi, All! Looking forward to more great discussions as we work our way through the lists!

Paula Bardell-Hedley (gaiabird) | 55 comments Hello all, I'm Paula from North Wales (UK). I'm not a particularly fast reader but my taste is quite eclectic, so I will very much enjoy immersing myself in this reading list. I posted a list of previously read titles under the appropriate headings - although, it looks quite paltry compared to many others in this group. I have also selected a mere 10 new books from the lists for 2017 (talk about snail's pace). So far I have read only one title this year. I look forward to discussing books with you.

message 23: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs Welcome Paula. Happy reading.

Welcome, Paula. I like the diversity of books on this list- so many books to choose from. It's fun.

Thank you, Rosemarie. Yes, it is a wonderfully diverse selection. I am really looking foward to making a start over the coming days.

Welcome Paula! Sorry I did not see your post before! Any books are good to start with, which ten do you have on your list for this year?

No problem, Jenny, you have your work cut out keeping up with all these posts. There are so many titles from which to choose that I have decided to select as I go - according to my reading mood. So far I have read two novels from the lists since starting: (Slaughterhouse-Five and Les Enfants Terribles). This morning I started Flaubert's Parrot. I suppose I am indulging in something of a mystery read for this challenge!

Paula, that's the best part! Hope you enjoy your reading journey.

message 30: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (eternalalien71) | 43 comments Hi :)
This group looks a great idea - I love seeing how many I complete on 'Best of...' & 'Before you die' lists.
I own books that cover '1001 comics / books / movies / graphic novels' already and like to mark them off as I go (I'm a Capricorn so I'm a list maker!)

I don't often get around to reading classics so I'm hoping this group will 'kick-start' my reading into a new direction :)

Hello Dawn, great to meet you. :-)

message 35: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (eternalalien71) | 43 comments Thanks guys :)
There are so many books I don't know where to begin! Lol

message 36: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (eternalalien71) | 43 comments I was wondering if it's possible to have a 'reading room' set up for me so I can keep track of titles I've already read in the past, and ones I'll be reading in the future?
They look like really good ideas!
Cheers :)

I just set it up for you, Dawn, Just check under Reading Rooms.

Hello Kandice. Great to meet you. I am fine, thank you, and very much enjoying being a part of this group. Hope you like it too.

message 43: by Kandy (new)

Kandy (kandy_baby1989) So far I am enjoying the group. How's everyone doing on their reading challenge?

message 44: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs Welcome Kandice.

message 45: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Welcome Kandice. I am doing ok on the challenge, I have read 9 books from the list this year and am reading 2 right now.

message 46: by Kandy (new)

Kandy (kandy_baby1989) I didn't go by the list. I am kind of a "take the less traveled path" kind of person. Right now I'm on a series called Seven Wonders. It's very interesting.

message 47: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Sounds interesting Kandice.

message 48: by Kandy (new)

Kandy (kandy_baby1989) I'm almost done with the first book. I'm getting hooked.

message 49: by Paula (new)

Paula Bardell-Hedley (gaiabird) | 55 comments Flaubert's Parrot completed and enjoyed. I am going off-list with my next book: Xingu by Edith Wharton (a mere 26 pages long), so will soon return to this challenge for my next read.

message 50: by Jenny, Makeing a world of books (new)

Jenny Clark | 989 comments Mod
Xingu is very funny Paula! Hope you enjoy it!
