This started quite well but became ridiculous. It was supposed to be funny - perhaps it was at the time it was written. I’m shocked that it’s on a reputable list as it includes offensive racist language. I won’t be reading books by this author again.

That is too bad, Trisha. I have only read Brideshead Revisited, which didn't appear to be that way.

This book is definitely a product of its times, but I thought it was funny.
