I found this a slow, tedious read & was close to abandoning it at times. The descriptions of the countryside were good, but the story seemed very long drawn out. It didn’t help that the page count on my Kindle version was obviously wrong! The end of the story was clever.
I liked the description of the landscape too. The book could have been shorter, I agree with you there, Trisha.
I’ve been listening to this over the last week. The reader is Jonathan Keeble and he’s been great. I think it has especially helped with the dialects. Reviews I’ve read have pointed out how difficult those could be to work through. Although, Blackmore apparently took special care with the dialects; trying to capture every nuance.
