I am going to recommend The Girls at the Kingfisher Club for this category!
Based on the fairy tale, "The Twelve Dancing Princesses", this is about a group of sisters who start sneaking out of their house every night to go dancing at speakeasies. It is a wonderful story about the bonds of sisterhood, rebellion, and the lure of the Jazz Age.

A lot of my Litsy friends have been talking about The Girl with All the Gifts lately so I am thinking of reading that. I just saw Rana's suggestion of Lilac Girls. My mom just gave me that book so I guess I will just have to read that one as well!
I'm definitely going to use this as an excuse to finally read The Girl on the Train! I've been putting it off and off... and I haven't seen the movie yet either! Which should I do first? Haha

Personal opinion: I enjoyed the movie way, WAY more than the book.

For you guys planning to read The Girl with All the Gifts can I please *HIGHLY RECOMMEND* the audio version?! Finty Williams narrates (Judi Dench's daughter!) and I swear I could listen to her read the phone book. Her accent is soooo satisfying! So good!!!

I will go against all trends and read a non-fiction book for this prompt. I already read a chapter, but never got around reading the whole thing, so this is a good opprtunity:
I also listened to the audio version of The Girl with All the Gifts for the Read Harder challenge. It is a great book, and I'm still thinking about it months later.
I personally loved Lilac Girls and The Girl With All the Gifts. I wish I hadn't read them both yet. I'll choose one of these:
The Windup Girl
The Girl Who Fell from the Sky
The Country Girls Trilogy
Girl in Translation
The House Girl
Vinegar Girl
Shanghai Girls
The Danish Girl
Pretty Girls

I am not a big fan of audiobooks but sometimes I have work duties that don't require much brainpower and they are good for those times.

This is a book that has been recommended to me so many times - I'm just assuming this will be the one I choose for this square! :-)

(Felt that way (reading telephone book) about Fenella Woolgar reading Kate Atkinson's Life After Life. Been anxious to find other books narrated by her!) Will have to seek out Finty!

Please do! It's fantastic! And I've yet to talk to anyone else who has read it, so I'm eager for discussion!

I've had The Girl Who Played Go by Shan Sa on my shelf for a while, going to use it to fill in this square. It also works for Written by a person of Colour and Translated From Another Language (It was originally published in French)
If anyone is looking for a collection of essays on identity politics and pop culture, check out White Girls by Hilton Als!
Girl Waits With Gun has been begging me to read since I first heard about it. Definitely going with it for this one.
I'm using Boring Girls by Sara Taylor for this one! It's about a teenage girl who discovers metal music and channels her frustrations about life through her new band. Very violent and a little disturbing, but well worth a read! It's by the lead singer of The Birthday Massacre, a Canadian heavy metal band!
If anyone is a BOTM club member, I chose _Girls in the Moon_ by Janet McNally as one of my Jan. selections, and it looks amazing so far!
So many choices on my TBR, but the one I completed first was The Girls at the Kingfisher Club. I'm so happy with the recommendations for this book! I love fairy tales and good retellings. This is The 12 Dancing Princesses set in 1927 New York. I listened to the audio - Susie Berneis does an incredible job of narrating.
I just finished The Forgotten Girls by Sara Blaedel. Bonus - got it for free in January as a Barnes & Noble Readouts serial read! Also qualifies for task 15 - a book translated to your language from another language (it was originally published in Danish, I read it in English).
I just finished Pretty Girls. It was an amazing book. I highly recommend it. I will forewarn that the violence is a little graphic, but well worth the read.
