16: Written by someone your age
I found a website which lists authors by year of birth here: https://www.fantasticfiction.com/years/. Anyone else know of any resources to help with this category?

That's a great resource, thank you for sharing!
That's a great resource, thank you for sharing!
I have to say, it's both fascinating and mildly depressing to see what authors my age have accomplished. Fascinating because of what they've written, depressing because of what I haven't written...
Thanks for sharing the link!
Thanks for sharing the link!
Thanks Marchpane! I found Dan Brown was born in 1964. So I am going to read The Lost Symbol. I love the movies, but haven't read the books. Looking forward to this one!

This is amazing, thank you for sharing!

I learned that Darren Aronofsky was born in the same year as me. My friend let me borrow Aronofsky's graphic novel The Fountain, which I was going to read this month. I'll put it off until next month & count it for this prompt. I hope my friend doesn't mind waiting a bit longer to get his book back! (I don't think he will.)
For anyone born in 1979 - Mindy Kaling was born that year so both her books can fill that square. That's what I'll be using.
If you were born in 1984, you can go with Anthony Marra! I'll be doing The Tsar of Love and Techno since I just read A Constellation of Vital Phenomena!
Jen wrote: "I'm kind of afraid of this one, I'm 21...."Jen, maybe you could interpret this one as a book written/published when the author was 21? That would open up more options for you. I think Frankenstein might qualify.
Thanks for the great resource Marchpane! I didn't even make it out of the A's. I found a book for my "someone your age" and for "translated from another language."
I was born in 1979 and I used the same link that Marchpane provided and here are my possible picks.Unwanted
Rebel Belle
The Highland Witch
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Also Bryan Lee O'Malley was born in 1979 so I recommend his graphic novel. Seconds
Rad! Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire was born in 1978, and I've been meaning to read the next in Feed series! :D
I was born in 1973. Some possibilities are Jo Baker, Anthony Doerr, Frances Hardinge, and Tana French. But I may read the first book in the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss... Not my usual fare but curious since Lin-Manuel Miranda is adapting it.

Quite a few born in 1970 including: Brad Thor, Stephen Chbosky, Sarah Dessen, Ethan Hawke, Lisa Lutz, Brad Meltzer, Jonathan Tropper, Colson Whitehead, Jennifer Weiner, and Sara Zarr. I'll probably go with one of the Brads because we have both Meltzer and Thor on our shelves. Or maybe Lisa Lutz because I love the Spellmans!
I was born in 1989, and so was Catherine Banner, who wrote The House at the Edge of Night—which I was already thinking of reading! Perfect! :)
Born in 1986 - Courtney Summers
I had to do a bit of research for this one, but I'm going to go with her book All the Rage which got pretty decent reviews last year and seems intriguing!

I was born in 1981 and I found a couple I'd like to read! Emily Gould's Friendship and Nadifa Mohamed's The Orchard of Lost Souls. I have a copy of Gould's novel, but I think I might go with The Orchard of Lost Souls! Good excuse to buy a new book, right?!
For those of you born in 1984, Trevor Noah shares our birth year! His new memoir Born a Crime is on my short list TBR for an my next audible credit

I'll probably..."Yes! And I used @Marchpane's list and found out that Alex George was born in 1970 so YIPPEE I get to use Setting Free the Kites for this square.
I was born in 1992 and I don't think the link to that site is accurate because when I click on my year I know for a fact many of those authors weren't born in '92. Gahh, confused.
There are only 3 authors listed who were born in 1992. You have to scroll past all the 1992 award winners and the authors who died in 1992... I almost missed it myself! Ben Brooks
Carrie Hope Fletcher
Cayla Kluver

That's how I originally interpreted it... that gives me a bit more leeway. I was born in 1987, so Jack London was 30 when he wrote White Fang ... it is my choice. Cheating? Maybe...
What a great website! I have heard good things about "The Winter People" by Jennifer McMahon, so I'm glad I share a birth year with her!
I have two nieces who are 13 and 11 who might do this reading challenge with me so have the same problem. I was going to suggest picking books which were published the year of their births as an option. Any other ideas?
If you are having trouble with this category, you can certainly go with a book that was published the year you were born!!
In the unlikely event that anyone else is as old as I am (57), I found some interesting authors born in 1959 - Susanna Clarke, Tami Hoag, Jonathan Franzen, Neal Stephensen, Helen Fielding, Meg Wolitzer
As I don't want to read any of the authors for 1990, I'm interpreting this one as a book turning 27 this year, as I've already got it and don't mind reading Possession by A S Byatt again!
Many thanks for the website Marchpane! I'm choosing Anthony Doerr, and his book 'About Grace'. It seems to have quite mixed reviews, but I loved 'All the Light We Cannot See', so I think it's worth giving it a go!

I will search to see if I find a writer I like. My first thought was to look in Wikipedia for famous people that year, turns out a lot of wrestlers were born that year, some famous polish futbol players (I am half polish) and at least 5 porn stars.... Don't know what to think of my generation....
If anyone else was born in 1989--I found out that Marina Keegan was born then so now I finally get to read The Opposite of Loneliness. Highly recommend.

Yes! I've been googling a bit and found that Bret Easton Ellis published Less Than Zero when he was 21, and Helen Oyeyemi published The Opposite House when she was 22! And as Marchpane said, Frankenstein was published when Mary Shelley was 21 as well! I'll read one of these for this prompt. Thanks!
