RP with your soon-to-be-tribute and any others (other tribute/family/friends/etc) from their district. If you need somebody to step in and play a family member/friend/etc, there are people in this group who I'm sure would be happy to do so, such as myself.

Lattice walked briskly down a narrow street near the edge of District Three, dark hair blowing out behind her in the chill night breeze. She had already scolded herself for forgetting to tie it up; her hair always got in the way. The Reaping was only a few days away, and she was still forgetting to do simple things like that. She wasn't going to last three minutes if she carried on that way!A tinkling bell rang throughout a small bakery on the corner when Lattice stepped through the door. The owner of the shop, only a few years older than she was, glanced over from one of the ovens. He accepted the coins she placed in his hand, she accepted the small loaf of bread he placed on the counter, and that was it.
He never asked her where the money came from. He never wondered how a girl with no family could afford to come to the bakery every week for an entire year.
And she never told him.
((So does yours. It's nice to see talented twelve year-old tributes. :) I like to make my eighteen year-olds mysterious. >:) ))
((I feel like I should rp her with some other D3 character... But I have no idea who she would ever talk to. XD The air?))
((Love interest? No... While I was writing that post up there I considered the baker, but no. I'm not that cliche. ;) Maybe a friend? I'm not even I sure I care that much who it is. XD Why don't you come up with somebody?))Lattice stepped back out onto the street and looked around, scanning the area for anything sinister. It was late, dark, and she knew that that was the worst time to be carrying bread through the starving area of District Three.
Lattice clutched the loaf to her chest protectively. The look in this girl's eyes struck a warning bell in her head. She was worried she would make an attempt to steal it from her. But that wasn't the worst bit. If this girl's eyes struck a warning bell, then the girl's question began a siren. It was the question that she didn't enjoy having to work around. The one she was glad the baker never asked. She could only stare for a few moments. Then, Lattice answered sharply, "I bought it."
Lattice didn't even blink when the girl asked her that question. On the outside. Her mind was thinking at lightning speed. Was she about to get caught? No... She had no reason to explain anything to this girl... She was just a desperate girl on the street, for goodness sake! "That," Lattice said sharply, "Is not your business."She took a few steps back along the road she had come.
"Well, my family is dead," Latticed replied darkly, "And I bet they would trade places with your family any day."She turned on her heel and began to increase her pace down the narrow street.
It really isn't any of that girl's business, Lattice thought, She's just desperate. That's all.
"You should be glad I answered even one of your questions," Lattice replied coolly, not looking back, "As I am not required to answer any. It is not any of your concern how or why I have made a purchase."She continued walking. Her hair was swishing, again, but she didn't care anymore. It wasn't a big concern. The girl currently following her, the one causing the blaring sirens in her head, she was a much larger concern.
"Of course I understand," Lattice let out, frustrated, "Did your parents get murdered right in front of your eyes? Can you honestly say that your own brother was found dead a few months later? Was it your sister stabbed to death on national television two years ago? Were you the one who had to endure it all over again the next year as your only other family in the world coughed up blood all over the cameras? Were you that girl who had to figure out what to do? Were you that girl who didn't eat anything but grass for two months while she tried to figure out how to survive? Are you that girl who, after she's finally succeeded in helping herself, is now being interrogated by her own reflection?"((Sorry. Took long to phrase that...))
Lattice didn't answer. The girl had ears. She had heard what she'd said. She turned again and resumed her walking.
Lattice stopped walking, but didn't turn around. "You could have just asked," she said clearly. She was aware that the girl wouldn't understand what she meant.
"For bread," Lattice replied quietly. She tossed the bread onto the ground a few feet in front of the girl. The girl's family was going to eat. Only a little, but something, all the same. Lattice wouldn't eat anything. She would go home and read over her notes, again.
Like she always did.
Lattice ignored her words. She merely wrapped her jacket tighter around herself against the chill air, beginning to walk again at the brisk pace she had used walking to the bakery, her dark hair blowing out behind her.((Gotcha! Thanks for the RP! :) ))
('ello mentor here.)Pheber sat down on the bakery steps, fiddling with the buttons on his shirt. He needed to get some bread for that night's chicken soup, but he wanted some time alone, with the reaping just a few days away. He hoped he got a tribute that he would hate so when they died, he wouldn't be sad. Ahh, c'mon, mom's waiting. suck it up and go in the bakery. he thought. He walked into the bakery with a big sigh.
Lattice listened to the familiar tinkling bell that sounded as she opened the door to the bakery. She had come to the bakery the previous day but had ended up giving the bread away. She still needed to eat, though. It was risky, spending so much in a week. But she only had so much more time to be risky. She had expected the shop to be empty, as usual, apart from the baker. It surprised her to see another man inside. She considered leaving, but that would look suspicious. Trying not to show nerves, she brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear; she'd remembered to tie it up, today.
Pheber looked around as a girl walked in. "'Ello, do you know where I can get some bread? And don't stare at me just because I'm famous, please. It's not polite." He said, in his capital accent that he got from going there ever since he won the thing. He didn't really mind it but people could be very rude.
Lattice raised an eyebrow at him. She was most certainly not going to stare. Just because he was a victor didn't make him well-liked. In her book, anyway. She didn't answer him, but instead strode past him to the counter, where the baker was waiting. "Bread, please," she addressed the baker clearly, looking at Pheber while setting coins on the counter.
He turned to the baker. "I like this girl. I hope you don't ever get reaped. Now, can I have some croissants?" He asked. The baker gave him a dozen croissants. Pheber payed him the required amount. He turned to the ground lady and gave her a couple. He left without saying a word.
Lattice watched the man leave suspiciously. Well, she had extra food, now. Might as well put it to use somewhere. She still disliked that man, though... To be able to wander around a starving district and still be able to smile like that. He didn't belong there. She walked out of the bakery onto the street.
Pheber heard the bell ring, announcing that the girl had come out. Without turning around he said, "They always follow the victor. So, to whom do I own the pleasure of my, somewhat, professional presence?". He turned around.
"Don't get all cocky, now," Lattice told him, walking right past him, "My home is in this direction. I don't care about your Capitol prestige or whatever else you assume I care about."She sighed inwardly as her hair was blown out of the knot she tied it in.
"Well I'm sorry. I'll put it in simpler terms. What is your name" He asked, sighing. Well, some people would thank you for getting bread for them. But girls just had to be different.
"My name is none of your concern," Lattice replied, not looking back at him.She continued to walk briskly in the direction of her home.
"Well, good riddance, unknown. I hope you have a happy journey with you experience in life." He said, tipping his hat to the girl. He started off in the direction of the Victor's Village. He passed his mother's house and went to the one where his wife and kid lived.
Lattice physically cringed. How in Panem could he say that? Was he so ignorant as to tell somebody in the starving part of District Three to have a "happy experience in life?" How was she ever going to put up with this man after she was Reaped?
@Pheber's HousePheber entered his house, the third one to the right. He said hello to his wife and kissed her on the cheek. Her hugged his little girl and gave her the bread. "Now, are you going to help mum cook and let me take a shower or do you want me to smell bad and have all those icky germs all over your food?" He asked, kneeling down to her level. She answered that she wanted to help mum cook dinner.
Pheber went into the bathroom and took his shower.
(if you would play one of the people at his home, ill play the people at your home))
((Yes, I can play somebody at his house. :) Who would you like? You won't be able to play anybody at Lattice's house; she lives alone. All her family is dead.))
((Gotcha.))Haley smiled down at her daughter. "Help me set the table for Daddy, alright?" she said kindly, setting the plates on the table to be arranged.
Then, she noticed the bread. "Oh, and go ahead and put these into the bread basket, sweetie," she added, pulling it off of a nearby shelf and setting it in reach.
She returned to her cooking, humming under her breath.
Pheber sat down on his bed, looking and thinking about that girl in the bakery. She was the first person to ever not stare and, you know, swoon over him. Sure he wasn't the hottest coal in the fire, but he was famous. Most girls would just completely lose it. He had a couple of people almost tackle him. "Okay,I'm over thinking this too much." He said to himself. He headed back down stairs."Ahh, that's better. How the chicken soup going?" he Asked Haley.
As if on cue, the timer sounded on the stove. "Ready, now, dearest!" Haley smiled, pulling bowls out of a nearby cabinet. She ladled soup into each bowl and brought them over to the table.
"Well, that timer and I have mental synchronization!!" Pheber said, sitting down at the table and placing a piece of bread in his soup. "I've always wondered why bread softens up in liquids. Ill add it to my mental 'How stuff Works' list" He said, smiling.
Haley laughed. Her husband always said the funniest things... "It certainly seems so," she agreed brightly, "And, yes, that certainly does seem an interesting phenomenon."
((this is his 11 year old daughter, Emma)) Emma looked into her daddy's eyes. "Could you please not use words like phenomenon and certainly? It's actually quite hard to understand." She said. She didn't like it when he or mum used words like that.
((...okay, I'm sorry. 11 year olds do NOT act like that. My sister's 10, and she can use those words. With ease. You're making her sound like she's 5, or something...))
((Well, honestly, Meli, I have a feeling that this couple wouldn't exactly raise a child with any brains whatsoever. XD Roleplaying this is actually quite challenging on my end. I'm really enjoying it. It makes me wonder what sort of awful spouse I'm going to be, someday. XD)) "Oh, don't worry, Em," Haley laughed and brushed some of Emma's hair out of her face, "There's no need for you to know words like those, yet!"
((Pheber, jeez, Meli you wanna play Emma the 8 year old?))Pheber smiled and took a bite out of his bread, now fully soft. He started at it for a little while. "I'm seriously thinking about this bread thing. I'm just going to make it my top priority tomorrow to find out what makes bread soften." he decided.
"Very lovely, dearest," Haley smiled.Oh, he was just so smart! She dipped a corner of her bread into her soup, as well.
Pheber took a spoonful of his soup. He tried to think about anything but that fact that in a matter of days, he would face the dreaded trip to hell and back. He couldn't do it. He just wanted this thing to end. He excused himself from the table. "I need to go to the loo" he lied.In his room, he wiped in face in his hands. "Oh, Piper, what are we gonna do? We go though this every year!!! I'm done with it!!! I just need you now. Bloody hell, I can't do it anymore!!!! I had one winner last year, and now we're probably not going to have another one. I have a life here!!! I'm just ruining the probability of having nice, normal dreams!!! Bad enough we have to live though it every. Single. year!!!!!" He ranted. He was almost shouting. He didn't care that his family was down there. He had enough of this madness. He wanted it to all end. But there was nothing he could do. ((btw, Piper is his dead sister that died in the games))
((Okay. 'Cause I had no clue. XD))Haley could hear his muffled screaming through the ceiling. It made her so sad to hear him this way... He shouldn't have to go through what he had to. "So, Emma," she asked her daughter loudly, hoping to mask the sound of her husband's voice, "How has your day been?"
