Alex Motsinger In my book, Empty, the gas prices are growing exponentially. This is because USA is at war with Venezuela. Venezuela is the leading oil supplier in the world. USA has to pay a lot of money in order to get oil from Venezuela. One might think, ok, why not just get oil from another part of the world. It is not as easy as that because literally every other part of the world is almost out of oil except Venezuela. Gas prices in the main town the book is located in is about $25 per gallon. In the book, there are about 5 characters introduced. Gwen, Luke (Gwen’s brother), Tom, Niki (Tom’s friend), and Gwen’s neighbor. Niki went with Tom into town to get some ice cream because it is a hot warm sunny day. They get to town, get their ice cream, and leave. NIki eats hers in the car, Tom can’t because he is driving. They soon realize that Tom is running on Empty. They then abandon their plan to go home, and scour the city for a gas station. They come across like three, but they are all out of gas. There are signs on the gas station that says “No more gas, find another one.” They eventually run out of gas trying to find a gas station with gas in it, so they start to walk back to their place and tell somebody. As they are hiking along, they see a motorcycle. On that motorcycle is Luke and Gwen. They pull over, ask what’s wrong, and Tom and Niki tell them their gas situation. “I can get you some gas, but it’ll cost ya about $40 a gallon, one gallon minimum.” Luke says he doesn’t have that much money. Gwen tells him that she can get him some, but he’ll have to pay her back. He says okay and then Tom and Luke leave to get some gas on their motorcycle, leaving Niki and Gwen. They have some really awkward small chat until they get back, and then they both go their own ways. Gwen has a crush on Luke, Luke has a crush on Niki.
