Memed, My Hawk by Yaşar Kemal

I read this earlier in the year. The main character is a poor Turkish boy, whose nickname is The Hawk. It is something like a Hardy novel set in the wilds of Turkey in that the characters have hard lives and the book is sad at times, but well worth reading.
