I have landed on Chance #1 and must read a book (historical mystery, of course) recommended by another participant. Please help me out by making recommendations! Thanks!
Hi Libby,
As you don't appear to have any books on your read shelf, I'm not sure what type of historical mysteries you prefer. So I've given you a mix:
What Angels Fear - regency
A Duty To The Dead - WWI
Mistress of the Art of Death - Medieval.
They are all great books. Hope you find one to enjoy.

And if you like ancient Rome, here's a couple.Roman Blood
SPQR I: The King's Gambit
Or ancient Greece.
The Pericles Commission
Here are a few other choices:Reconstruction-era USA: Still Life with Murder
Fin-de-Siècle Vienna: A Death in Vienna
1920s England: Murder at the Brightwell

How about this one? It's 1920s England: Murder at the Brightwell
Thanks, Susanna! Since I recently read and enjoyed the first four books in her Flavia Albia spinoff, I've been meaning to start the Falco books to see how it all started. And I know my library has this one. :-)
I would recommend The Winter Queen or Murder Most Unladylike (also published as: Murder Is Bad Manners)

I have landed on a Chance space. I am in need of some recommendations from the lovely group members. Thanks!

Any time period preferences?

.
Not really. I think my TBR contains a pretty wide variety of time periods and mystery styles. I just finished A Perilous Undertaking this morning and thought it was great fun. Maybe I need something a little on the dark and gritty side next?

That is perfect. I am currently staring at a copy of that book, wondering if I am going to get it read before it needs to go back to the library.
I may also be fashioning myself a tinfoil hat.

I hope you like it, Gretchen. It's one of my favorite historical mystery series. Sebastian is one of my book boyfriends. ;-)
Tinfoil hats are making a comeback, I hear.
If you are still in need of suggestions, how about An Impartial Witness or The Cater Street Hangman?
Gretchen wrote: "Well I finished my book. In related news, I just added 11 more books to my TBR."Does that mean you liked Sebastian?

I did. I like a good rogue. He's not quite as rugged as my current literary boyfriend, Uhtred, but he's got some potential.
Veronica wrote: "And that reminds me, I have to get back to the Uhtred books. I've read through book 4."I love Uhtred. Not that Uhtred they have on tv right now. He's too much of a pretty boy. Book Uhtred has literary heart.
Gretchen wrote: "He's too much of a pretty boy. "He also looks on the short side compared with some of the other male actors on the show.

I've landed on Chance 1 and need a recommended book, please. I'm fond of historical mysteries or historical fiction or mystery thriller.

is a good bet.If you'd rather try something new, I'd recommend Death Comes to the Village
for charm or The Ides of April
for fun.
The mystery element is not totally predominant in this book, although there is a murder and detecting, but if you like the Georgian/Regency era in England, you might enjoy A Useful Woman by Darcie Wilde.
