Quantum (quantumkatana) Here we are coming to the end of 2016. What's the best fiction book that you've read this year? Why did you think it was the best? It doesn't have to be published in 2016.

My top one is a novelette:
The Terracotta Bride
Genre: Supernatural/Fantasy
Need a Buddhist take on the afterlife? Look no farther.

"The enigmatic billionaire founder of Tetration, the world’s most powerful tech company, hires a failed novelist, Josh Cohen, to ghostwrite his memoirs."

Jeff (thelongwait) | 51 comments Thanks Alex!

Complex and brilliant all at once. Don't believe the bad reviews. If you like a challenge to the normal, read this.

Marie Silk | 1025 comments Usually I stick to non-fic, but this read more like a wartime biography than it did a work of fiction. It's a book that will stick with me for a long time :).

Savaged Lands by Lana Kortchik

Jen Pattison | 409 comments My favourite was an indie book that I found enthralling, The Forest and the Farm by Vance Huxley.

Anita (neet413) | 95 comments Tough call. I've read some great stuff by Bentley Little and Neil Gaiman, and the Iron Druid Chronicles were great fun but I think the best of 2016 reads has the be three novels I consumed from the Repairman Jack series.

Cold City (Repairman Jack The Early Years, #1) by F. Paul Wilson
Conspiracies (Repairman Jack, #3) by F. Paul Wilson
The Haunted Air (Repairman Jack, #6) by F. Paul Wilson

Jokoloyo | 4 comments Sorry a bit late, but for 2016, I read:
The Invention of Morel by Adolfo Bioy Casares
better late than never. The writing style is beautiful. Based on link on my review, English translation is not-so-good, but I still found it beautiful. I envy people who can read it in the original language.

Sarah I can only pick one.... shoot. I read some awesome books in 2016.

I guess my favorites are The Saxon Stories (The Last Kingdom I think is #1 in the series) by Bernard Cornwell.

A very close second would have to go to Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

Graeme Rodaughan For me, it was The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins which had the most interesting ideas I've come across this year.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8089 comments The Homesman Give it a read. You'll think it's a western, but it's not.

message 18: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Well - heading towards the middle of 2017. The current standout book I have read in 2017 is Demon Dei (Night Call, #2) Demon Dei (Night Call, #2) by L.J. Hayward by L.J. Hayward very classy Urban Fantasy.

Soo (silverlyn) I've been quite happy to read several great books this year but I have to say, Follow Me Back, is the first to surprise me in a good way. Must read all the way to the end. Must.

I tried to not gush too much in my review because I don't want to give anything away. Hahaha- Ending matters!

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 291 comments I don't read much fiction but this was a charming exception, a sort of road movie in book form and packed with interesting characters. I've just reviewed it.

Fascination

J.D. Cunegan (jdcunegan) | 62 comments So far this year, the best thing I've read is the Judah Black series from E.A. Copen. Really, really good urban fantasy. I highly recommend these books.
