I thought it was easier to pick the books out first and then go down the list. I didn't finish this year's but I did what you did and took them out and placed them on my side table so they are always in view! I'm moving the ones I didn't complete this year to next year's challenge.
Ok, so the first thing I finished this year from my TBR pile isn't even on my list. I just love making lists and then ignoring them, don't you? LOL Anyway, I've owned this title for more than a year so I'm counting it. It is, after all, reducing my "waiting" pile :)
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Ancient Greek Athletics Finally! The first one off of my list :D I've had this one for years and it feels good to move it from the "to read" to the "read" pile.
Woohoo! I think this might be the best challenge I have ever done, it feels so good getting rid of old books that I finally worked up the coverage to get rid of a huge stack of books that I will never read.

I've just finished up one that I've been carrying around for seventeen years! LOL! The sense of accomplishment seems out of proportion to the very slim size of the book but, dang! That feels good :D
The Lais of Marie de France I think it's safe to say that I enjoy studying Medieval history more than I enjoy reading Medieval literature... or, at least, French Medieval romances.
Alexander the Great: The Hunt for a New Past Not one of my listed books, but it's been waiting for me to get around to it for about five years ;)
Persian Fire: The First World Empire and the Battle for the West Well, at least this another from the list (I'm apparently not great at following lists. For anyone counting, that's two from the list and three that have been owned for a while but not on my "GET TO THIS YEAR!" list... but at least I'm clearing out backlog, right?)
Wolf in White Van I bought this when it first came out and finally got around to reading it. I don't feel bad for leaving it so long, even though I love Darnielle's writing, because this is one of those things that it has to be the right time for you or you will never be able to sync with the story and it won't mean anything to you.
The Modern Scholar - Odyssey of the West II: From Athens to Rome and the Gospels This has been waiting in the wings for about five years. I would probably have gotten more out of it if I'd listened to it when I first picked it up. I've since read more in-depth pieces on the subject so this survey type of lecture was re-hashing a lot that I already knew. Even that wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't hated one of the presenters.
Dawn Michelle wrote: "Jeesh your list is some HEAVY reading. WOW. You GO girl!!"HAHAHAHA! And then I spent the entire day reading Dragon Age fanfic :D
WHOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!! I love days that take us away from what we should be reading to reading what we love. Not that the heavy stuff isn't what we love too, but I think I would love fanfic in a much different way than I would say Ancient Greek Athletes. LOL
The Magicians I've owned this for five years; at least it's out of the way now (and I know I won't be picking up any of the others in the series)

At least you're saving money now by not buying the other 2 and you can donate this one! lol

Mr. Mercedes Another one I've had since it came out and have no idea why it took me so long to get around to. I really enjoyed it.
The Story of Human Language I've had this one for a couple of years. I like the other ones I've read from him better, but there was still a lot of interesting stuff in this one.
Lion in the Valley An audiobook I've had for about five years. I love this series, and devoured the first three... then just stalled. It's nice to know that they still hold up (because I own six more in the series, LOL!).

is on my to read list. Maybe I need to move it up since this sounds like a good series.
