I have opened the nominations early so that we can get the poll in before Christmas.
There will only be five nominated books.
If your nominated book wins the poll, you have the option of leading the discussion.
There is no theme, but the books should not have been read by this group in the last three years and are books that have been on your to-read shelf for a long time.

Added 9 hours later:
Since we already have three good choices, I am going to try something different this time, in order to give readers a chance to nominate a book:
There will be two polls, if necessary.
The first will have up to 10 books on it, and will be a poll to determine the top 5.

I want to be fair to the nominators, but also have a good discussion of the winning book.

Tracey (traceyrb) I haven't read any E M Forster since I was at university and so how about his first novel Where Angels Fear to Tread (never read this one)

Suki St Charles (goodreadscomsuki_stcharles) | 31 comments Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon has intrigued me for a long time, but I just haven't got around to pulling it off my shelf...

That is Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon.
It is also on my to-read shelf.

I have read the others and enjoyed both of them.

Thanks! How did you do that? (The links, I mean.)

You're welcome.
It took me a long time to figure out how to get the link because I was using the app. If you use the internet, there are many more things you can do- like edit your comment, etc. At the top of the comment thread there is the the option to add book or author, and you just type in the name and press search.
I generally use the app because it is faster. I learned how to add and edit from another member of this group.

I've never read The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and would love to read it with the group. I'm pretty sure I would have to read it in translation though!

Gem, I just checked the Toronto Library website and the book you nominated is reference only, so it may not be readily available.
Would you like to nomimate another book?

Yes-it's not available through the Ottawa library either and only in kindle or $35 used book on amazon.ca.

Everyman | 3574 comments We've never, if our bookshelf "read" listing is correct, ever read any Kipling, though he was a major figure of the late Victorian age.

So I'll nominate his masterpiece Kim.

Kim by Rudyard Kipling Kim

Sure. But I have to think about it, lol.

The nominations thread will be open at least one more day to give members a chance to think about their choice before they nominate a book.

Thanks Gem. That book is much more readily available. I just finished reading 20 000 Leagues under the Sea and enjoyed everything but the long lists of fish that he saw in the ocean. Yawn!

Since we haven't had any nomination in almost 24 hours, I am closing this thread now. There will be one poll, unless there is a tie.
