This book is about a young girl whose name is Mo. She lost her mom in a tsunami accident and writes her letters and hopes she responds. A man named Mr. Jesse died and Mo and her friend turn themselves into detectives. They try to find out who killed him.


Probably the main conflict in this book is Mo trying to find her mom and who killed Mr. Jesse. A new kid comes to town and she automatically makes friends with him. In the beginning Mo and Dale steal a boat and have no idea that it belonged to a detective. They try to keep quiet until someone killed Mr. Jesse in the boat they stole. Mo writes her mom everyday hoping that she’ll respond and want to meet. The conflict was resolved and they found out who killed Mr. Jesse. They said It was the Colonel. Mo’s mom never wrote back but she knows that her mom will some day.

Mo was a rebellious young girl who was determined to get what she wants. The thing that helped her is her thinking all the time never give up. If she was here today she would probably say that and don’t let your dreams be dreams. She dreamed that she could be a detective some day and did. Mo is like a leader that will try and try again. In Tupelo Landing Mo works and goes to school all day and when she gets free time will do karate and write her mom. Like i said Mo would tell everyone to never give up and fulfill your dreams.

I really liked this book because there is a lot of excitement and drama that is happening. The author Sheila Turnage did a great job and made this book one of my favorites. I would recommend this book to others because they should know what it's like to do the things that Mo did. I wish everyone could read this book and like it too.
