- What are you reading this week?** The Whispering Statue by Carolyn Keene
- How old were you when you first read this book?
**I got this book for Christmas when I was 8 years old. I remember reading many many Nancy Drew books as a young child ages 7 -9. These were definitely the books that got me hooked on reading.
- Would you recommend this book to kids now?
**I would recommend them, but let the kids know they are old fashioned.
- How was the book?
**The book was really fun. I was not expecting to enjoy it as much now so many years later, but I could see why I liked it as a child. Even though the actual events and happenings in the book were not very realistic, it was all part of the charm. I may dust off a few more Nancy Drew books on my shelf and re-read them and enjoy reliving some childhood memories.
1. What are you reading this week?Dolphins at Daybreak by Mary Pope Osborne (Magic Tree House #9).
2. How old were you when you first read this book?
I was in the second grade, so around 7 or 8. We lived on the island of Guam at the time and dolphins were my favorite animals. When I saw this book in a Scholastic book order, I just had to have it!
3. Would you recommend this book to kids now?
Most definitely! When I have kids, these will be a main staple in the family library. It's such a great series because it's fun and education. It shows kids how to research.
4. How was the book?
It's been years since I've read any of the Magic Tree House books, so I was pleasantly surprised at how fun of a read it was! There were all of these little nuances of Jack and Annie that I'd completely forgotten about. Reading Dolphins at Daybreak was like reuniting with a childhood friend.
-What I read -- The Double Jinx Mystery by Carolyn Keene-How old was I when I first read this? I don't really know, somewhere in the 6-8 rage. Nancy Drew got me into reading. I'm pretty sure I read every single one of her books.
-Would I recommend the book to kids now? Yes. Some of them are a bit slow; but for the most part, are quite engaging, portray a strong female lead, and are quite clean. And you can actually learn a thing or two.
-How was the book? It was good; I read it in one sitting! I didn't realize how unrealistic it was as a kid nor how rich Nancy is! And time definitely doesn't always make sense. I have no desire to go read the entire Nancy Drew series again but I enjoyed the book and getting a glimpse of a part of my childhood I hadn't thought about in a long while.
- What are you reading this week? Bad Medicine by Carolyn Keene- How old were you when you first read this book? I was in the 4th grade. I had a Nancy Drew Book club that I ran out of my garage.
I loved Nancy Drew. I read all her novels. I wanted to be her when I grew up. I even studied criminal justice in college. I have a love for police work and detective shows even though I didn't end up in that field I still like to study it and am a fan of true crime. I feel that love all started with Nancy Drew.
- Would you recommend this book to kids now? Yes I would. I still think Nancy Drew is a strong female figure that was smart and used her brains to help others. I think it is important to encourage girls that they can be whatever and whoever they want to be in life.
- How was the book? It was a fast read I finished it in one day. I still liked the story. I remember when I read it the first time I had to keep reading to find out what had happened. It was fun to think back to those times. In this book she was candy striper in a hospital and I couldn't help think that now days her asking questions in a hospital like she was would never happen. I did think if I was my 9 year old self I would have been on my seat for then end it had some nail bitter seances at the end. =)

What I read -- Like several others readers, I read a Nancy Drew book: The Triple Hoax by Carolyn KeeneHow old was I when I first read this? Probably about 10
Would I recommend the book to kids now? I'm not sure. I loved Nancy Drew when I was a kid, but this book felt very dated. I'm not sure today's kids would feel in touch with the old Nancy Drew books.
How was the book? It was OK. I didn't love it like I loved Nancy Drew when I was a kid. But I'm glad Nancy got me excited about reading!
