Breaking Dawn
question
Jacobs beating

To what beating do you refer? I don't recall a chapter in Breaking Dawn where he gets beaten.

Care to clarify because I'm blanking, but even if he does my answer more than likely will be no because he never really does anything that reaches despicable enough levels to deserve being beaten and that includes the forced kiss. That actually can be entirely blamed on romantic comedies (the only real place it seems he knows where to get his cues for being romantic) and the scenes that involve the lead male kissing the lead female so she can realize she's in love with him. This is actually weirdly enough one of the only times SM wrote a rational reaction to something because the results are exactly the same if it happened in real life minus the broken hand.
Are you talking about him imprinting on Renesemee because Seth takes the brunt of that, but even if Jacob did get beat up there no he doesn't deserve it because he's as much of a victim if not more in that situation. While Renesemee will have limited choices in the future at least she gets one. Imprinting took not only his choices, but a chunk of his personality, so I'm pretty sure he got the short end of the stick there. I think being stuck with Renesemee and the Cullen's for all eternity is punishment enough, no beating necessary.
Are we talking about when he gets beaten in the newborn battle because that's an obvious no. That's one of the few times anybody in the series actually seemed noble, more noble than any of the times Edward saved Bella because Jacob didn't even like Leah at that point. He was just naturally protective and would protect anyone which I'm sure isn't a curtesy Bella or any of the Cullen's would lend themselves to.
Or are we talking about the repeated beatings he gets from Bella pretty much from New Moon all the way through the rest of the series because no one deserves that. While a lot of it seems self inflicted because he keeps coming back for more, there were actual times when he genuinely tried to separate himself her, but she kept reeling him back him. Hell at one point he actually told her to leave him alone, but she kept choosing to keep him dangling from a string despite knowing it was hurting him. It's one of those things that annoys me about Bella, she knows she's displaying bad behavior, seems to genuinely feel bad about it, but then continues to do it anyway and this happens more than with Jacob.
All in all while people criticize him for being a cocky immature asshole that's not really a reason for deserving a beating of any kind. While being obsessed with a girl he knew not to stalk her, while being protective he knew not to limit her, and even at his worst he mostly knew where to stop definitely more than Edward, a little bit worse than Mike, but still never quite crossed irreversible boundaries. He's a character that given a little bit more time and a lot more breathing room could have seen some real growth and character development which most of the characters in this book lack. So I don't think he deserved any beatings in the series at all maybe reprimandings, but that happens and the behavior stops meaning that's not more than what he needed.
