Please use this thread to discuss and review Fallen by Lauren Kate.

I went ahead and read Fallen because I couldn't wait. I've seen plenty of good and bad reviews on this, but this was a 5 star for me because I couldn't stop reading it. The writing may not have been very good, according to some reviews, but I honestly didn't pay attention because I was enjoying the story so much. I liked all the characters, even when they made stupid decisions. Now I can't wait to read Torment. I'll probably finish the series way before we start disscussing the rest of the books.

Has anyone else read it yet and, if so, what did you think?

D.L. Hey there. I just got the book in the mail today. I can't wait to read it & discuss it. I hope to start it tomorrow or Sunday.

Awesome Daphne! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I think I'm more excited about the movie though. It hasn't been decided if it will be released in the U.S. yet, but I really hope it will be. I think the writing is intended for a younger audience, but I just love a good love story.

D.L. I love a good love story too. I haven't gotten to start it yet but tomorrow I have several hours to myself and will get it going. Hope to read at least 50 pages or so. I really look forward to it. The whole story sounds awesome.

There's going to be a movie huh? Very cool.

Here is a link to the trailer if you're interested:

(You may want to finish the book first to avoid spoilers.)

D.L. I finally got to start reading this. I made it through the prologue and half of the first chapter already. It's very intriguing. Arrianne is naughty lol Luce is a mystery and I can't wait to meet the love interest. I have a theory already that

(view spoiler)

I will definitely keep reading.

D.L. I made it Page 100 this afternoon. Only 300 something pages left to go lol It's getting better with each page though. I thought the writing was a tad juvenile at first.

I am glad Luce is not a Bella Swan-wannabe like seems to pop up in so many young adult paranormal books since the Twilight phenom.

Daniel sounds hot!

I really like Penn and hope she's on the up and up.

(view spoiler)

I will keep reading and hopefully finish it this week!

Ana Till | 40 comments I have Fallen but am reading The Orchid House first. so far I like The Orchid House but it is taking me longer yhan I thought to read it. My husband has even made a comment about how slow I have been reading. :/

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
I'm glad I read this one first, because I'm reading The Orchid House very slow myself.

Alison Wall | 27 comments I read The fallen series over a year ago so looking forward to hearing what you all think! I have the Orchid house but still haven't started..

Laura (lauradragonchild) I just joined the group a fee days back and just started to get the hang of it. Is it ok if I start reading Fallen now. May finish it before the end of Jan. I don't have the Orchid House still so would that be ok if I read it later? Or will the discussions about it be closed by the end of this month?

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
No problem Laura, you can read it at your own pace. The discussions will always stay open.

D.L. I need to finish reading this this week so I can get to book #2 :)

Laura (lauradragonchild) did you finish Fallen Daph? I'm starting it tonight and hope to finish in the weekend. Is it a light read or the kind that you read only cause you have to?

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
I think it depends on the person. I really liked it, but I know people that didn't.

Laura (lauradragonchild) I'll start tonight then and let you know. :))

Laura (lauradragonchild) well, I have started with Fallen and there is a question I'd like to ask. Are there really schools of that type in the States or is that just part of the story?

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
Yes, I think we refer to them as boarding schools.

Laura (lauradragonchild) boarding schools with bracelets that give shocks when you misbehave? seriously? I really thought it is just a story.

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
Well, I think those parts are just part of the story, lol. I just meant a structured school for troubled children/teens.

Laura (lauradragonchild) ok! Seemed a bit drastic to me to be real but then you never know...So I just had to ask.

Laura (lauradragonchild) I'm 30% into it now and I'm kind of still wondering what I am reading. The story seems so dark and unlikely sometimes... Did anyone else have the same feeling?

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
I knew what the story was going to be like because of the movie trailer, so I didn't have that feeling. I do think It was a darker toned story, and I may not have liked it as much, if the movie didn't look so good.

Laura (lauradragonchild) maybe it is better I didn't see the movie. It will not influence my opinion of the book. I'd rather abstain from forming an actual opinion until the end but for now close to half through it- the story seems sort of dark and twisted and maybe just a little bit off.

Melanie | 235 comments Mod
I have only seen the trailer, because it hasn't been released in the U.S. yet. :( Not sure if they ever will.

Laura (lauradragonchild) ok. I finished and it really wasn't as bad as I expected. The first half of the book was a little bit off for me but it became better in the second half. I didn't like Luce and her sometimes cowardly, selfish self-pitying ways but in the end it looks like the girl may be growing a spine after all in the sequel and I'm curious to see how she'll develop. I was able to put the book down easily and finish my chores without a thought to it which in itself means I was not thrilled about it, but it made me curious as to why exactly is Luce so important in the grand scheme of things: just to stay alive so that Daniel doesn't turn dark and tip the balance or is there something more?
I'm giving it 4 stars. It was not a great read but a good one nonetheless! And it left me wanting to read the sequel.
