Melissa | 92 comments Dear Simon, I hope you feel better soon! I have been listening to the old podcasts, and I would love new ones. Patreon is a spledid idea. I may even contribute! The Sword and Laser podcast has patreon, and they seem to do pretty well with it. Thank you for the update!

message 2: by Carol Ann (last edited Dec 17, 2016 12:58PM) (new)

Carol Ann (carolann1428) Oh, I do hope you're feeling better soon and able to continue the podcast. I will gladly contribute depending on the price. What do you think it would cost per patron for an annual subscription? Also, starting up after the new year might be a good idea - it would lighten the pressure and allow you some time to breathe and make arrangements as needed to start up again in January.

Best wishes to you both for good health and a Happy New Year.

message 3: by Karenna (new)

Karenna | 4 comments I definitely think people will contribute to support your programming. Get well!

message 4: by Phyllis (new)

Phyllis | 4 comments I love your podcast, and would be happy to support the program. I miss hearing from you both, but I understand why it may take a bit of time to get everything ironed out. In the meantime, hope your health issue is improving and that you are enjoying your new home.

message 5: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Feel better soon Simon! I will patiently wait until you get everything figured out, and in the meantime I will revisit old shows and watch you on Youtube!

Thanks to you, Gavin and Thomas for all your hard work, and I would gladly be a patron!
Cheers!

message 6: by Mimi (new)

Mimi | 9 comments Feel better indeed. I think waiting until you are healed and rested is a perfect plan.

message 7: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Take care of yourself before you take care of us.

I have missed the podcast, but understand why it is necessary to postpone recording until the new year.

I am not familiar with patreon, but would consider supporting the podcast.

message 8: by Kara (new)

Kara (bookwormkara) You should take care of yourself and get everything in proper order instead of putting band-aids over potholes (or some kind of metaphor like that). A lot of the podcasts I listen to use Patreon or some other kind of sponsor; makes sense to me! Plus it's the holidays; take a well deserved break. You guys do what works for you, we'll still be here to listen :D xoxo

message 9: by Esther (last edited Dec 20, 2016 10:34PM) (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 135 comments I love your podcasts a lot but they are great because you guys are great and so I will gladly wait for you all to feel healthy and well-rested before you 'return to the fray'.

You are more than worth a visit to Patreon.

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen Brown (khbrown) | 19 comments Simon and Thomas, count me in to support the podcast! I like what Elizabeth said: " Take care of yourself before you take care of us." Have a happy holiday and brilliant new year! I'll keep an eye out for how best to contribute.

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (goodreadscomdawn_irena) | 27 comments Simon ~ so sorry for this late comment ! But better late than not at all ! I love you and Thomas ! Your show is the first Book podcast I have ever listened too and I have been a loyal follower all along ! I do not think that a break is going to bother me or any of your true fans at this point and especially when it concerns not only health but also the issue of upgrading your product which is your podcast and a lovely benefit for everyone.

Really Simon, this should not even be a consideration or a question. You are ill . You must take care of yourself before you can ever even think about giving to others in a 100% capacity in any job or labor of love . Please know how important this issue is to everyone that is in the world and those who may be reading this response too. Your life is so special and unique . There is only one of you and after that we can not enjoy another . So, PLEASE , Simon and everyone take good care of your health . We need to love our own selves before we can care and appreciate others in the way we need . Love one another and Respect and treat those around you as though you would wish to be treated in return . As you read books you see lives from the characters of all types in their point of views ! Take that awesome experience from reading with you everyday and look from the eyes of others . See if your tolerance gives you more empathy and patience. God Bless You Everyone !!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New year !
Dawn

Ruthiella | 272 comments Get better soon Simon and as Elizabeth said, take care of yourself first. I think it is absolutely OK to have a patreon account or to have a sponsor, like BOTNS did.

message 13: by Gail (new)

Gail | 17 comments I just looked up Dercums on Dr. Google.....Geez..take care of yourself, Simon!
Merry Christmas to you and Thomas.

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen (bookertalk) Your health comes first - always. So don't worry for a second about going silent until 2017 rolls around. I doubt you'll have lost your loyal listeners. We will all be gagging for a new episode by then as a remedy to turkey overload......

message 15: by Juliette (new)

Juliette | 6 comments Please be well. You are in my thoughts. I'm happy to support The Readers in any way I can

message 16: by PJ (new)

PJ (pjhugs) | 12 comments I do hope third time's the charm for booking your operation. Best wishes for better health!

I already support some podcasts on Patreon and will eagerly support The Readers if you choose that outlet.

Happy New Year to you and Thomas!

message 17: by Holly (new)

Holly (hglightly) | 17 comments Count me in as a Patreon supporter.

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna Baillie-Karas | 9 comments Count me in! But most importantly get well soon and hopefully you will soon be convalescing from the op with stacks of lovely books. :)

message 19: by Seonad (new)

Seonad (raincoatdays) | 4 comments I think it may have been my obsessive listening to the back catalogue which may have got you into this dilemma! I would definitely support The Readers. Having never listened to a bookish podcast I have to apologise for becoming a bit of a stalker to both Thomas and Simon. I feel like I slot in well with both of their tastes. Thank you! I am pretty alone in my personal life when it comes to books, I do have a real life book club but we all know they can be... troublesome? Anyway happy new year and come back soon xxx

message 20: by Peggy (new)

Peggy Happy New Year! I'd support supporting the podcast. Here's to better health, and plenty of good reading and banter in 2017.

message 21: by Kathie (new)

Kathie I'm a lurker in this group but do greatly enjoy the podcasts. You guys have led me to some great reads I'd never have fouund otherwise.

Want to underscore @Seonad's comment about book clubs. I'm in two, and while there are rewards, there are also low moments, like right now when one group has me reading a life of Vince Lombardi. Skim and DNF seems to be the order of the day for that one...

message 22: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (thomasathogglestock) | 251 comments Just checking in to say HELLO. I too miss The Readers, mainly because Simon and I haven't talked for ages.

Happy new year to all of you.

(I also love it when lurkers de-lurk.)

message 23: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Hello Thomas! Happy New Year!

I am looking forward to the readers reunion.

What are you reading right now? Any recent reads you would recommend?

message 24: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Okay, okay, Thomas I'm de-lurking (and de limit, de luxe, de-lovely).

I miss the podcast but completely understand that health concerns must take priority over a labo(u)r of love. Until you have the chance to tape another episode, please fill us in about your latest great read: what was it, and what types of reader would it appeal to?

Best wishes to you and Simon and all of your listeners for a wonderful new year filled with improved health, pleasant surprises, and great reads.

message 25: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katsikes) | 28 comments Hi, Thomas! (And Simon) Happy New Year! I love that you both are still giving us book info on twitter and youtube - it helps make me miss the podcast a little less (though you still better get back to it at some point... I mean, not that I'm being bossy or anything... ;) )

Thomas do you want to be a guest on my podcast? I can't help with the Simon part. ;)

message 27: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Yes! Thomas on Reading Envy. That would be great.

message 28: by Ruthiella (last edited Jan 12, 2017 05:59PM) (new)

Ruthiella | 272 comments I concur, that would be fabulous if Thomas did an episode of Reading Envy!

And if any one is jonesing for Simon and his blog and twitter are not enough, I recommend his you tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/SavidgeR... .

Hello, Thomas! I hope that both you and Simon are well. I see on Twitter that Simon finally has a date for his procedure. I hope all goes well for him, and that he recovers quickly.

message 30: by Margie (new)

Margie I love the podcast and would definitely support via Patreon.

Agree, Thomas on Reading Envy would be great!

Simon, best wishes for good health and a quick recovery.

Jenny, I've been out of town since 12/30 and only intermittently checking out the webs. I would love to be on Reading Envy--whatever works for you. Email me at hogglestock [at] outlook [dot] com.

message 32: by Carol (new)

Carol (ckubala) | 70 comments Good to see you are back podcasting once again.

I have checked out Patreon and wondered if you have considered a way for your supporters to pledge a one time specific amount rather than the monthly donation of $1 or more?

Thank you.

message 33: by Holly (new)

Holly (hglightly) | 17 comments I think the point of Patreon is ongoing financial support. I suppose you could sign up and then cancel after a month. Not ideal but it might accomplish the purpose.

message 34: by Thomas (new)

Thomas (thomasathogglestock) | 251 comments I am new to Patreon as well and don't know tons about it, but it sounds like Holly may have the work around.

message 35: by Carol (new)

Carol (ckubala) | 70 comments Thomas wrote: "I am new to Patreon as well and don't know tons about it, but it sounds like Holly may have the work around."

Thank you for suggesting a work around. The method suggested is a possibility. I would prefer not to have a continuous billing, even if it were a small amount.

message 36: by Gail (new)

Gail | 17 comments I will be following this thread. I went to the Patreon site and did not participate because of continuous billing. There should be an option for a one-time pledge (which we could use more than once). The podcast is much loved and appreciated!

message 37: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 135 comments On the other podcasts I listen to they often have more than one method by which listeners can donate. Go Fund Me seems to be popular.
