I probably wouldn't have finished this series if I hadn't been reading it with everyone in this group. IMO, Maggie is the weak link in the series. She is a profiler who rarely profiles. She sometimes rushes into situations without thinking, and eventually needs rescued. She has a bunch of men who want to get to know her, but for some reason she just pushes them out of her life. The writing was uneven in this series. Maggie has a bad headache in one book due to a bullet creasing her skull, but in the next book there is no mention of it. I'm still wondering why Ray Kuntze treated Maggie and Tully so badly when he became their boss.
I liked the character of Ryder Creek and his job with the dogs, but I don't think this author can successfully pull off his story, especially if he is going to be involved with Maggie.
Forgot to add....A big "Thank you" to Jonetta for all the great questions while reading these books.
Robin says it all perfectly. I also only read the books because I was committed to the group read. I would have faded much sooner on my own:)Thanks for all the organisation Jonetta and here's to an excellent series read in 2017!
You're welcome! Thank you both for hanging in there as I'd never have finished this series without you.
Yes, Robin you've laid out all the issues perfectly.

Here's a link to a Huffington Post interview with Kava that sheds some light on why we may have struggled with her writing style and this series.
FYI, her next Ryder Creed book deals with his missing sister Brodie. I might read that one (I'm the eternal optimist, or masochist...you be the judge.)

Lol! Oh, I'm not reading the first three! Just the new one when it's released...from the library:)
My library has that up on the new books shelf. I have looked at it a couple of times - but I still think I have enough other books to read:)
Sorry I realise I am talking about #3 and you are talking about #4. Actually all the first three have amazing average ratings!!!
Lol! I know but that's still not going to sway me:) I just want the resolution to his sister's disappearance. I know, I know...just don't say "I told you so" when I have to come back here and tell you she didn't provide a conclusive ending.
Thanks for the group read ladies. I would never have gotten to the last couple of books without it. I am interested enough in Creed's character to continue on to the spin-off although I do hope that he doesn't get romantically involved with Maggie.
Thanks for the link to the interview, Jonetta.Kava's answer that she wrote each Maggie O'Dell book as if it were a standalone could explain some of the continuity errors and loose ends. It is not an efficient method for writing an ongoing series.
